Yeah I like Peter Consterdine. I think he learned the Shukokai double hip thing. I don't do the double hip but I can testify it hits very hard.

Also for good 'applied karate'look at Kane and Wilders books, Iain Abernethy, all the Kissaki Kai guys. There are alot of guys out there right now doing some cool stuff with Karate.

Arguably they are really going back to the past, but in terms of what's been around and popular for the last twenty years or so it seems "new" in comparison.
