#99139 - 10/06/04 06:25 PM martial systems (no, NOT MA's)

hi all
I'm tatally new to this forum, and it's my first topic so don't get rough
I wanted to start topic about sth I didn't see here : some systems of fighting which aren't exactly martial arts but are perfect for streefight(that's why I post it here )
Krav Maga, Combat 56, Combat Kalaki, Sambo, BAS nad so on , and so forth mixtures of the most painfull and simple techniques of many MA's used in military, security and on the streets
what do You think, did anybody train anything of that and so on ( yes, I actually AM trying to provoke some discussion)

For pure SD, a "Martial System" may be more immediately appropriate to a lot of people. I have some exposure to Krav Maga and find it similar to typical military combatives training with common strengths and weaknesses.

Strength: Stripped down program, straight to the point, fairly simple.

Weakness: Limited if any flight time (sparring). Tends to follow the encyclopedia model where there is a move for everything. Quality control is an issue as instructors become franchised/ certified after attending minimal seminar training.

The same can be said about a lot of programs like this.

Never heard of the other programs you mentioned other than Sambo which tends to be a Russian version of Combat Jiu Jitsu or Judo depending on who you study with.

Systema, russian special forces combat regimen, all based on real life situations -hence very good for streetfighting. Oh, and krav maga is crap, not to discredit it too much...

Why is Krav Maga crap? All I've heard is that many schools went commercial, but that's all.

Isn't that kind of like saying " Just because I said your girl's a slut, Doesn't mean she's not pretty" ?.
