Mongoose,,if you're joining the military simply to learn how to fight and to stand up to bullies,,Please stay home. Study martial arts, pump iron, take steroids if you feel so inclined but don't go into the Army. You'll be miserable and a poor fit. On the other hand, if you want to grow up a bit, serve your country, learn some work and life skills, earn tution money and you're okay with the idea of combat duty, by all means sign up. If you really want that ranger option hold out for it as a contact gaurentee BEFORE you sign swear and ship.(otherwise there's a good chance you'll never see it). Army h2h is kinda sorta BJJ based at the moment. It'll change soon enough so dont be too focused on exact details. As for prep? I lost conditioning in basic/AIT. Got some of it back in jump school, and hit a plateau in the 82nd where we did a LOT of running and calesthenics but not much else. The exceptional performers trained on their own time (weights and MA's). Having a good areobic base will get you further than just about anything else. Try for the fastest two mile time you can manage (thats th PT test distance) and a 12 mile march in under 3 hrs with 50-55 lbs combined gear (thats the other standard). Good luck and keep us informed. K-
