We mainly seem to focus on mano e mano, but what about the most dangerous STREET FIGHTING of all, riots. What help can the martial arts be in the chaotic midst of a city turning against itself? (pretty darn wordy, huh?)

Good post. Bundles are more frequent, or at least less avoidable than the ego proving one on one situ.

Run away! run away!

Seriously, I don't have a clue besides hitting everything that moves and trying to stay on your feet.

Al.

Have you ever practiced two on one fighting or three on one? Even in a controlled enviorment like a Dojo it is very difficult. Form a circle of about ten students have one stand in the middle and randomly come at him with different techniques, knife lung, overhead strikes, side kicks ect. it's a lot of fun and sharpens your multiple attcker self defense cituation.

We do this Schanne, and as you say very difficult (and often painful).

Imagine then if they all attacked at once (cos not all attackers are polite enough to wait there turn )

Really don't know what I would do in that situation. I would like to say I would keep hitting until I couldn't hit anymore. Can't help wondering though if I would just soil myself

I think two scenarios are being combined here. Jamoni, if I read your post right I think you were referring to riots or mobs. In that case, I would hit anything that stood in my path to escape and keep running!
A few o the responses seemed to be taling about being jumped by multiple attackers (e.g. 1 on 10). In that case, I agree with the posts...hit until you can't hit no more (Sharon, I would keep hitting even after I soil myself )

A warrior uses his environment-once you have soiled yourself, use it! Think monkey at the zoo and let it fly!

Rookie, you are correct. I'm thinking of riots like the LA/Rodney King one, or of mass flight situations like that nightclub where everyone got crushed cause the doors were locked. Specifically, what can you do to avoid being carried along, or trampled. Are there any tactics you can use to increase your safety?
As far as mass flight, I would think locking arms/bearhugging a couple of others would increase your mass, and thus your maneuverability. One thing I've done is to "float" on the crowd, where you rely on the press of bodies around you to keep upright, rather than firm footing. Elbows are about the only strikes useful in such tight quarters, but how should you apply them? To make an opening in the crowd?
Lot's of questions.

The only thing I could think for that mass cituation is, just get the hell out of there, no rules apply, or pre thought out techniques...I'm sure it would be pure caos.

During my teens I grew up in Notrthern mining town where th watering holes got very ugly. It took the police a while to get to the troubled areas.

ROFLMAO....schanne!

Flamethrower, top answer mate.

Seen loads of "mob" fights, damn scarey. The poor bugger that goes down and then the other surround him and dance the Can- Can on him.
Went to a "western" in a pub, when i was a copper. 2 sides of the bar, to "teams" throwing glasses, bottles chairs etc at each other, some poor innocents hiding on the floor under tables. Was the worst violence I have ever seen.
We got there and the 2 sides just went for us ( police are a better target ) lol, my arm was sore for weeks.................
never batoned so many people in 1 day isnt "tennis elbow" a bitch

The pack mentality just takes over, just think of english football hooligans, im sure we have all seen fottage of them in action.

Trouble is there are so many blows coming in you cant even see them, much less stop them, and of course there are always the "snipers" .....i think they are the worst, cowards normally, who take the free shot..

Oh well of to work tonight, let’s hope that this thread isn’t prophetic…
