I usually just buy 'em a beer and tell them a few jokes. Like the one where the guy walks into the bar and says to the bartender, "Hey, I'd like to buy that old douchebag at the end of the bar a drink!"
The bartender says, "Well THAT wasn't a very nice thing to say about that lady, now was it?"
The guy then says, "You're right, allow me to buy a drink for the lady at the end of the bar."
"That's better", says the barkeep. So he then strolls to the end of the bar and says to the lady, "Ma'am, the gentleman at the other end of the bar would like to buy you a drink, what would you like?"
And she says, "A vinegar and water!"
Thank you and good NIGHT!
Originally posted by MrVigerous: Thanks for all the replies but as ever, this thread has evolved from the initital question that was asked. Actual techniques aside does anyone wish to share any little tricks that though not as "undeniable" as a right hook may give you a percentage advantage against some opponents. Call it showboating if you like and I for one would frown on that in a realy serious situation. However, against some opponents it may be possible and it may make your life that little bit easier.
Regds Mr V
Tangled with a boxer one time. I punched with my right, he weaved, I missed by a mile, but I got a good look at how he did it. Took a glancing punch to the head (Partially parried), retaliated in kind with my right, he weaved, I waited until he came in range of my knee, which was ready to come full onto his face from below. Didn't do so at the last milisecond because of the possible damage to his cheekbones, nose, teeth (It wasn't that kind of a fight, where I felt justified in hurting him before he seriously hurt me. Just 2 "jarheads" ("Bootnecks", to you Brits) going at it). But I was left without a counter. As soon as he straightened up he hit me with a left. Again I was able to half parry and countered with a right cross and immediately with a left straight. Once more he weaved the same way and I missed entirely. By then we'd moved around to where we were fighting over the root system of a big tree. In shifting my feet when I punched, I stumbled. In order not to fall, I made a grab for him, and caught the tail of his T- shirt. When I pulled on it to regain balance I also pulled it most of the way up his back. I noticed from his reaction that it interfered with the use of his arms. That's when the light bulb finally went off. So I pulled the tail of his shirt the rest of the way up and over his head, and went to work! There was more to the fight than that, but the above is what applies to the thread.
P.S.: (Embarrased LOL) I hope no one read this post before I had the time to edit it. This happened a long time ago, and my memory was blurry. So the first version was an idealized version of events (Funny how memory and your mind works. What I rendered was what I WISHED had happened). While I was asleep last night, I dreamt about the incident (Conscience bothering, you might say). In the morning I remembered the incident clearly, and couldn't get to my computer fast enough to set the record straight. Apologies to anyone who read my original drivel (As opposed to this CURRENT drivel! ).

I have found biting works when I was on the ground but never do it on bare skin!
If being grabbed from behind like in a headloack pinch the back of the attacker's leg, yank his groin!
Use eye gouges, scratch his face!

go for the neck. pinch, punch, karate chop, forearm, just about anything. blast em'in the throat! . There is a tendon on the front edge of the armpit under the end of the colarbone. grab and squeeze!
if all else fails, theres the classic kick in the balls. ( although this can sometimes hurt more than help)

BD,
The throat is very fragile and crushing the larynx or compressing the esophogus is a high possibility. This will obstruct the air way and cause the opponent to suffocate to death. Even if you didn't "think" you hit them "that hard". Accidents happen. It's a fact of life. There is a big difference between self-defense and self-preservation.
As for the biting aspect... now you are leaving yourself open to blood virus' like HIV and Hepatitis. You'll survive the encounter now but you'll pay for it later.
Just something to think about.
But I get where you are comming from.
My best,
Raul

lol yea your right about the disease thing. I dont really plan on biting into someones neck. I was just stating a point. I guess i'll take your advise and try to avoid neck-shots.

Flash flights can be used as weapons to strike or apply pressure to the adams apple..I am sure you can also learn how to grapple with it. The flick of the light switch blinds the person leaving him disoriented for a while because his eyes will need time to adjust back to the darkness.

Penn and Teller tell a story where one of them was approached with a polite offer to spar (whatchoolookinat, meathead!) while carrying a milkshake. When the challenger grabbed him, he poured the milkshake over his own head. This apparently hit the reset button on the goon, who went away looking confused. I hesitate to even bring this one up, but what about "checking the oil"? For those of you not in the know, this is, well, basically, um, jamming your thumb in their, uhhh, bunghole. Yeccchh. Sorry.
