#88598 - 12/15/04 03:19 PM Where do I start with Ki?

I want to take it up but there isn't any instructors in my area, If you can help what is the easiest way?

Start by enrolling in a local martial arts class and learn to breathe properly with your techniques and learn how to apply a proper Kiai with your fighting style.

MA is a good start. I recomend finding one that is more then just showing you how to kick punch and block, ect. One that isnt afraid to talk about chi and kia. If your instructor wont broche the subject of chi (ki) then they arnt dedicated enough.

Next step is meditate. TECHNICLY it is 2nd step of IMA, but without an instructor its hard to do step one. It is said that if you meditate for 1 hour every day for 100 days you will start to develop your chi and will be able to feel it. That sounds like ALOT and it IS but this is IMA its not like walking in a strait line. Unfortunetly once you develop your chi you will hit a similar wall that i have hit. I have been trying to self teach the use of chi for strikeing and resisting injury. I ever practice chi healing (self only). All self taught. Of course I barely focus my chi into strikes the only reason I can do things like break 3 inches of cement with my foot is because im strong and have practiced kicking for 6 years. The flip side is that I do have a degree of master over chi because I am capable of raising my body temperature, similar to what tibeten monks do. When I say raise my body temp I mean from shivering to sweating not just a little warm feeling.

The moral of my rant/story is that it IS possible to develop your chi and even do some things but certain things seem to nessesitate an instructor, or a very canny individual, but! Dont give up, belive in yourself even if you dont have a teacher.

Here's what I do on my own. I also do other stuff with teachers too though
