In most cases all your chakras will be open to some extent.

I am not experienced in qi gong methods of working chakras, only with reiki, and we treat all 7 major chakras in every treatment.

Your healing centres in your palms being reactive suggest you have already done some healing or energy work with them. Try scanning your other chakras with your hands and see what it feels like.

The dan tein is the navel chakra - one of the major chakras. The others are crown, 3rd eye, throat, heart, solar plexus, navel and base. There are developing points on the hara line and in the knees and feet.

Rmember whatever you do to ground yourself properly before treating and drink lots of water afterwards!!! this helps to flush toxins away.

Okay .... if it's serious I'll have a go to help here...

"Chakra" means "spinning wheel" and the 7 major Chakra that Reiki pointed out are all on the 2 major meridians of the body (the Covernor meridian that "pumps" chi up the back and the Conception Vessel that "drains it down the front of the body ) these 2 meridians are joined by pressing the tongue to the top palette (just behind the teeth) and pulling the lower abdomen in and slightly up. The 7 Chakras go right through the body and thus the 2 major meridians and beyond.

If you read the "classics" of Kung Fu the guidance is there. The flow of chi can be enhanced by joing the meridians as explained earlier, by finding your "midline" and utilising "suspended headtop" (feeling as if the crown of the head is suspended by a rope from above), stretch the skeleton up and then soften the mucsles down. Animate your eyes" by "looking a mile away" to draw the chi up and over your head. "Hollow the chest" (by relaxing) and "raise the back" (works in conjunction with the chest) this will enhance the flow.

"Relax the waist" soften the psoas muscles to link upper and lower body and as your bodyweight floods into your thighs you should "find your feet" so thet your weight goes into the arches of your feet. Remember that all this should be done whilst still doing the above. Get it to settle toward the back of the arch so you don't block the major kidney point.

Each Chakra is affected by certain areas of your life - so you will "hold" it if you are anxious in any of those areas eg. solar plexus is anxiety or fear . When you invigorate the 2 major meridians and activate these chakras you will get a response, so if you are anxious or worried it's not unusual to burst into tears or laughter as the solar plexus is stimulated.

"Opening the chakras" is not a correct term, if they weren't open you would be dead. Stimulating them should be done gently and long term so that the correct alchemy of character takes place, that's why an art like (good) Tai Chi or Reiki is essential to do this work. There are so many people out there doing more harm than good.

If you are serious, search out and find a good instructor.

BTW.... these are some of the internal basics that should be contained in ANY Martial Art. I have been taught most of them (and a lot more) in Karate, Iaido, Jodo. Aikido and Tai Chi.... maybe different words, but the same thing.

Brilliant post Steve!

I know I was being lazy in not covering the meridians, however I believe it is the responsibility of these guys to do a bit of research on the subject and not expect it all on a plate from us. I dont know about you but my time is very short these days with many ppl wanting me to do things for them.

Agree that if your chakras are closed you would be dead!

They do need to find some guidance in the form of a good teacher or MA school though! We teach reiki and qi gong as part of our MA system which is where I got involved with them a few years back, although I have always been interested in healing. [a very long story]

cheers
Jane

just re-read the above post and corrected a couple of typos.

I feel that having an energy forum is a good idea if only people would use it with some common sense, we seem to have two ends of a spectrum bitching at each other whereas some understanding could be made in the middle ground.

If a person is insensitive, they genuinely can't understand what they can't feel and even if they don't believe what they read, it might encourage them to consider reasoned, experienced messagers.

Then there are the young dudes who only know what they have seen in the movies and anime cartoons. They simply need someone to point out the facts.

Yes I am very busy at the moment with several magazine articles to write, 2 books I'm working on, An Association and full time centre to run and a Governing Body to manage at a crucial time, but..... I'm willing to give it a try!
