I’d like to take a few moments to introduce myself and share some thoughts regarding the Meditation/Zen forum. First off I would like to say that though I am not a practicing Zenist I hold it in high regard. I ‘m also committed to the value of respectful dialogue on Philosophy, concepts, methods and their role in the martial arts training, both now and throughout history. I do not consider it my job to instruct. My personal goal is to help create a climate that fosters a respectful sharing of sincere questions and responsible replies. I also intend to seek out and invite respected people both on the forum and outside that can make a contribution to our understanding of the arts and our practice of them.
In the Zendo teachers carry a long stick called a "Kyosaku". It is used to strike students that are becoming drowsy in meditation. It is not done to punish them but to invigorate them. It helps them wake up. The Zendo is not a place where one just says and does what one feels. Neither will the Meditation/Zen section of the forum. I have been given an online "Kyosaku".
