All other schools of karate have essentially the same large hip movement to generate power (a distance of 10 - 12 inches from relaxed to full execution).

Congratulations for finding the one and only style where things are done properly!

One thing I should mention as a disclaimer to my knowledge of Kimura technique...

Every 6 months or so, Kimura sensei would change an aspect of a technique that emphasised (sp?) a particular point he was trying to make. sidenote: He was working on his English, but he usually got his point across clearly- He would say "Like Disu" and proceed to cut the air in half with a reverse punch.
anyway, my point being that he gave different dojo's different aspects to work on until they saw him again and he would then adjust the dojo accordingly. (by 'adjust the dojo' I mean correct the top ranks, which created a trickle down effect in the dojo without him having to visit each dojo)
I wasn't a part of this after 1989, so whatever developments happened from then until his death, I am not aware of.

Forum answers with particular technique should always be confirmed by your Sensei.

Nenip...Sorry to offend. If it doesn't apply to you, it doesn't apply to you. Kimura's method wasn't the only proper method. Done correctly, ALL techniques are proper within their respective systems/schools/styles.

What I mean to convey is that after 24 years of training (12 of them teaching) w/ similar methods, I was convinced by the effectiveness of Kimura's technique. I'm not won-over easily by the next, hot trend, adaption or ultimate fighting art. I was a traditionally trained MA who scrutinizes efficacy of technique, Bunkai & strategy constantly (bugs my wife). If you're ever in the neighborhood of a Shukokai dojo, drop in & ask to hold an Impact Pad.

Hope this clears it up for you & future readers. Thanks.

OK, sorry if I overreacted, your statement came out a little to much like the "my style is the best/only real/original/whathaveyou" that I've seen a few times too many!

"...who scrutinizes efficacy of technique, Bunkai & strategy constantly (bugs my wife)."

I do that too, but not as seriously as to bug my wife... can we therefore agree that I'm at least smarter than you, albeit you hit harder?

Its funny how Shaolin body mechanics, and internal body mechanics (Taiji) is JUST finally making its way to Karate.

Well, since it took 500 or so years for Shaolin to even BECOME Karate, this should be no surprize!

Well after karate became..karate (simplified Shaolin methods), Shaolin was still being refined and practiced all over China, and in various other places. Its funny how everything is over-formalized nowdays, with specific steps to doing it, while everyone needs guidelines, the main component to fa jing and perfect body mechanics is the state of mind. The "Zen" or "Wuji" state of mind makes this so natural, that it becomes very difficult to explain, and when it is, it is overly complicated. If you want to know what I mean, study a white crane master doing the internal form, and then a karateka doing the famliar karate form.

What? A WC master, but just any old karateka, how fair is that?

Kimura method
kara...The Gasshuku in N.J. w/ Bressaw, Marinus, Thompson & Daniels will be May 14th & 15th (maybe 13th too). Still not certain if I'll be able to go because it's supposedly for KSI members only. I have a couple of people vouching for me but I'll need to get Bressaw's OK (he's hosting it). Does it sound like something you'd be interested in?

I'm going to be visiting Sensei McCook soon, I'll mention it and ask and let you know. It does sound good, and NJ is probably the furthest I'm able to travel.
Thanks for the reminder.
