Good Morning,

There was an Isshin-Shorinjiryu Okinawa-te art in the late 60's and early 70's in Northern New Jersey...

Is this the art you were seeking (It sounds ~similar enough~)? I have meager information (but SOME), if this is the art you were interested in...

Jeff

Isshinryu was founded by Tatsuo Shimabuku. Another member of the Shimabuku clan, last I heard, was head of Shorinji Ryu kempo. Also, there is (was?) a bad mama-jama master of SR kempo in Pennsylvania named Broadman.

Isshin Shorinji Ryu System is a modification of the Isshinryu system created by an instructor/group in New Jersey.

As in all cases they make the claim they've prepared a stronger system. Journal of Asian Martial Arts (JAMA) ran one of their articles about a year ago.

Going solely from memory, their additions were not of Okinawan origin, and their validity would require seeing not reading, IMO.

For their claims, you either believe it or not.

I study this system too. From what I understand it was founded by a gentleman named Robert Murphy in the late 60's.

Morning Victor,

The JAMA article you were speaking of was NOT done by Isshin-Shorinji folks.

That article was done by/about Isshin-Kempo folks.

Close but different people-groups...
