I'm a fan of Magazine-jutsu. Nothing beats a rolled up magazine and with a rolled up copy of the Big Issue, you can buy a weapon for a pound and help the homeless at the same time!
The "thwack" sound of the magazine as it impacts is surely as powerful as any kiai. And the weapon makes a decent read between ass-kickings.
I have not delved into the deeper uses of the unrolled magazine for diversionary purposes and the two handed Broadsheet-Newspaper-ryu. (The sports section is reputed to be highly effective when giving a good whack around the ears)

Good to see this thread resurrected again.
Did I tell you about the use of fighting sarongs? Apparently they are very a useful weapon. Plus you can wear them.

Mug-Do! I, too, have seen this rare form! Performed one late night by an off-duty Marine working as a late-night cook in Northampton, MA. Best drunk fight I ever saw ended with a broken jaw, and plate glass window...Mug-Do! Hoorah! Quote:
I would say they are the standard. BTW, Mug Do reminds me of a flashback..... We used to go to a redneck diner in Louisiana, called BJ's. When we would leave, we would drop like $5.00 in the jukebox and play "Welcome to the Jungle" by Guns N Roses about a bazillion times, just to annoy the natives. So I'm dropping about 20 quarters into the juke box, and these rednecks come up to stop me. One of them reaches out to grab me, and my buddy Jonas Devlin clocks him in the skull with a palmed coffee mug. MY HERO. We beat the other redneck down and then ran for our car, as the waitress was calling the M.P.s. Mug-Do is alive and well, and being taught to elite Army forces! (okay, welders and machinists, but whatever.)

Mug-Jutsu - The Science: using a Mug as a weapon. The Art: without spilling the contents.
p.s. I'd like to see someone derail a thread called "off-topic". let's try it: How do I fight effectively in a movie theatre that has a sticky floor? it would be like wrestling on fly paper. . . see! not deleted or locked...cool!
