Since, I view this as much as social, and visiting with my peer group, I think a general forum where you could just "talk" about things would not only be fun, but informative and helpful in understanding our disparate cultures and ways of thinking and living.

If, for example, you understand someone's viewpoints on family, then you get an understanding, I think, about the type of Martial Art they practice.

Even a place to gently prod a determined opponent or that special windbag... [IMG][/IMG]

What's been moderated since it started?

That speaks volumes...

What has been moderated? Now I cannot exactly tell whether this is a rhetorical question, or are you really interested in going through the list of threads that have been closed, and why they are closed. But I do know if we keep going in that direction, this thread is probably gonna be closed, too.

I dont think practicing jo/bokken is nonsense. If the proverbial was to hit the fan in a bar, people picking up stools, bottles cracking etc, wouldnt anyone with knowledge of the jo/bo/bokken start looking towards the pool table, theres a couple of handy jo sized cues on each table.

I've hardly had to do any moderating which quite frankly is how it should be. As ive said on numerous occassions, you can post about anything you like as long as its vaguely martial arts related and not offensive, disrespectful or just put on the board to upset everyone. I'm not the fun police. This post was funny and had a MA theme so why should I moderate it in any way.
Not to be funny or anything Tae, but really if some of you guys want to talk about non MA related things like your home life, family and holidays, that's great but perhaps you should email each other as this is a MA resource.

Khayman> I agree, and hence the quote/end quote around the "nonsense". We were just bored at a statistic class, and so we went off to rant about the probability of getting attacked while you have a jo handy... neither of us really think jo practice is nonsense; if anything, it's very good movement practice.

Mr. 'V'> Got it. Sorry I can't help but throw in something to test the water. I won't harrass you for moderation again.

Don't forget, the jo is just a stick. Spears are just pointy sticks. Swords are just very sharp rocks. If I wanted to, at this very moment, I could beat someone down with:
A computer (incluidng all peripherals= MOUSE FLAIL!)
A skateboard
A case of Pabst Blue Ribbon
A ceramic Yoda statue
A camera tripod
A glass bottle lately full of grape juice
An Ironing Board (Jackie CHAN!!)
A bathrobe
A Baby carrier (sans baby)
And an entire closet full of expensive pointy heeled womens shoes.

This is something that a good ninja school teaches. Turning everyday objects into weapons of destruction.

Ever seen Surf Ninjas? Skateboards rule as weapons, but my personal favorite is my vaulting pole. Fourteen feet of heavy fiberglass. The staff-and-a-half. Difficult to use, but it makes study in ranges very interesting, as with all improvised weapons.
