押忍、皆様、
Judderman

Now that is truly funny
I actualy started learning Japanese some time ago (after I got bored mentaly beating myself to death learning the Russian alphabet). Some of what that guy said certainly rings a bell as does this nagging memory in my mind about a bloke not leaving his newspaper at a restaurant.....help help it comming back to haunt me

"Shinbun mo sensei no desu ka?"
"Iie, sore wa watashi no de wa arimasen"

Give me strength, its the mental equivalent of poking rusty forks into your eyes.

Regds
Mr V

About "raccoon"

You know in asian culture, people have a habit of diefying people/ animals? There are a lot of folk tales about raccoons that can transform into any other object/animal, including human. They like to pull pranks by transforming and get people in troubles. I guess my fantasy of raccoons are kind of like many american boy's fantasy of becoming ninja.

My dad always tells me it's just myths. "Don't be silly, of course raccoons don't exist. Do you believe in Santa Clause? For Christ's sake, I send you to catholic school and you don't even believe in god! Then why raccoon?"

Except we came to Canada together, and we were on our first road trip. We drove from Vancouver and head up to Calgary, we stopped at some national parks, and during one of our breaks, we saw 3 raccoons sitting on some garbage cans...

My dad's look was priceless, I was pretty surprised too. We stared hard, then we looked at each other, neither of us know what to say! I mean, I didn't *really* believe in raccoons and stuff... until I saw 3!

My dad went back to Hong Kong after a month, I was in Canada by myself. Somehow raccoon just became my mascot. It's like my first real surprise in Canada I started collecting raccoons figurines, stuffed toys, posters, pictures etc. My official student account in University is also "raccoon".

Naturally, when I apply for account here, and it askes for a handle name, I chose raccoon ^_^ raccoons are the best!

-raccoon

P.S. The mysterious animal is actually supposed to be "tanugi", raccoon is "arai guma" in Japanese, so they are slightly different... but they look exactly the same!

「新聞も先生のですか。」
Does the newspaper also belong to [you], Mister?
「いいえ、それは私のではありません。」
No, that is not mine.

Rings a bell? If you can remember that much it's pretty good. Sorry for ramming those mental forks into your eyes

Watashi no sutsucasu des, doko ni arimaska?
After two years of german, I could almost puzzle out sentences (given several hours and a college level research staff), but Japanese destroyed the language center of my brain with alarming speed and ruthlessness.

I found japanese suprisingly easy to learn. Alos, suprisingly easy to forget, and hard to elarn other languages, especially mathematics.

Mr V,
I have taken note of your guidelines on dress code for gradings and will endeavour to ensure that my students form an orderly queue at your table for gi signing.

Taebot,I come to these boards to discuss and learn about Martial Arts. I come to this thread because I find it amusing (As do most of us).
If I ever feel I need to improve my English I will enrol in the local college, but thanks for your concern.
