DOMS
----

Is there anything you can do about it? It's really getting in the way of my sprinting. I ice, I heat, I rest, I foam roll (while quietly screaming inside). I started doing sprinting drills a month ago to improve my speed at tae kwon do, and ever since that first set of 10, 25m sprints I've had reoccurring pain in my quad. Obviously I pulled it, but it's been a month and it won't go away. It never hurts immediately, it hurts about 3/4 into the sprint or 3/4 into whatever drill I am doing.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is there anything I'm not doing I could be doing?

Dizziness
---------

Before you say "see a doctor," I have seen a doctor. I've had an ECHO done and a bunch of blood work and will get the results on Dec. 1. In the mean time I thought I'd see if anyone else has had the same problem and ask what works for you? I get dizzy a lot when I exert myself. Never during the exercise, only immediately after I stop. It doesn't happen with light workouts, only during sprinting-like drills or with anything that involves having my arms above my head (that seems really random to me). It's not low blood pressure, my blood pressure is normal at 110/62. Like the DOMS, it's impeding my progress and it's extremely annoying. Anyone else experience this?

Doubt I am anywhere near as in shape as you..but I started having problems with soreness after 34 or so. For me, a simple magnesium supplement seems to help alot, as well as joint mobility exercises.

Steve Maxwell has a dvd set of these, honestly it's probably taken care of 50% of the soreness I was having, doing some targeted work of this kind after training has made a big difference.

Christie, your explanation does not appear to me to be DOMS. DOMS would be a tightness and slight ache a day or so after the workout. The more you workout the less and less it will happen and eventually your body will adjust to it. I am always searching for that feeling as it is far and few. The only time I get it is if I take a break and come back; or if I change things up majorly. It sounds like you pulled something and you are not allowing it to heal properly and you are re-aggravating it each time. I would R.I.C.E. it and stay off it for 4-6 weeks and then try again and see if it reoccurs; if so then seek medical attention.

As for your dizziness, to me it sounds like you are not getting enough oxygen. Have you ever been tested for asthma? What you may be experiencing is "exertion" asthma that only comes from doing high levels of activity and wouldn't affect you other times. When younger I was diagnosed with this and used to use inhalers when doing high levels of sports and exercises. I don't have too many problems now as an older adult but that is because I know my limits; though I do push them. I would experience this in TKD from time to time; hated it. This is just an observation as I'm not a doctor.

Good luck with your training.

So you have been sprinting for a whole month and wonder why your muscles are complaining. Are you doing any slow stretching or other slow warmups to get your legs ready to sprint?

And after you do this sprinting, do you follow up with any cool down stretching to get your leg muscles to relax again?

In my running days it took me weeks to work up to jogging any distance, much less sprinting.
