I havve a burning question and it seems to be unanswerable

I know there are many Kenpo (Kempo) schools out there in many different Countries but what is it?

I have seen one school I know of change its "badge" from Kenpo Karate to Kenpo Jujitsu and I am sure others have done the same both ways round. Is it due to where the roots of the style is from, because I believed ALL Western Kenpo originates from Grandmaster Ed Parker and if that is the case it should be called Karate (although it was originally known as Jujitsu - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Kenpo).

When searching for Kenpo Jujitsu the only sites I can find are Club sites or NGB's like this one (http://www.bkjjf.co.uk/)

It makes me think why did the Kenpo Jujitsu Instructors change it from Karate as GM Ed Parker / GM Fredrick J. Villari still keep/kept to the Karate "Label"

Note, this is in now way a means to discredit an awesome and effective style of martial arts, it is just a way of finding understanding.

Hi Ken. Parker-lineage kenpo has always been karate to me and my contemporaries (although even calling it karate is debatable to some, LOL). While it was known as kenpo-jujitsu years ago, I think the modern re-attachment of that term is a more economic move to take advantage of the popularity of MMA. That said, some kenpo schools have added a BJJ/MMA component to their training syllabus, so it may not be totally cynical in all cases.

Are you just asking about the name? Why it went from kenpo-justsu to karate and then back again?

From my research parker changed it from kenpo to karate because karate was a more popular way of advertising. Just like many TKD's were known as karate or Korean karate.

Also it is my opinion that Ed Parker changed the style of kenpo from a jujutsu (grappling) art to a more striking art. As well as creating an entire curriculum and breaking down how to teach it.

I also agree with Matt, many BJJ techniques have found their way into different arts just as many TKD kicks have done so before them.
