To alleviate the after work out pain after a longer than normal workout (annual seminar 8 hours a day) I pop an aspirin before training each session and sometimes take a benadryl to cut down on the swelling of the joints-although some don't advocate the mixing of the two. I do it once a year for a couple of days. Seems to do the trick. Recommended to me by a doctor who worked with Olympic athletes years ago.

Taking an aspirin before a class that you know will be really tough doesn't sound like a bad idea.
I don't take the advil unless it's absolutely necessary, like it was this morning.
Usually I'm a little sore the morning after a class, but a good warmup followed by some stretching usually does the trick for me.

A couple months ago I sparred for about 10 minutes with a brown belt in his late teens. He never laid a hand on me, but the next day I realized I hurt more than when I was young and LOST the damn fight.

Yeah...my soreness didn't come from being hit, but from throwing out lots of strikes and kicks.
Sparring is an excellent workout, but it takes a lot out of you.
