Well I think it's because leg kicks were not allowed. No leg kicks were thrown by either fighter that I saw. The Thai fighter, while clearly tough, couldn't deal with the reach advantage. He needed to get inside and couldn't. I think it was more an issue with experience than anything else.
Vitalis was able to use that stance because he didn't have to worry about leg kicks, he loaded the left leg and used it as a jab to create distance for his hands.
My issue was more that he didn't load that kick enough and his spin kicks were terrible. Always a bonus to fight a guy who is shorter and can't exploit your mistakes.
