I've made myself a home dojo. I call it a karate man cave. I have two students right now and probably room for one more...maybe. I'll put up some pics later on. Officially the dojo is called 144:1(from psalm). I may use this thread to seek advice and yes, I was inspired by oldman.

Ok, here's 144:1 The room won't support a heavy bag, so we just use eachother. Matt, If you ever get the chance you should come down.

"We just use each other", LOL.
Looks really good, bro! How do you like using the double-end bag? I have been thinking about getting one myself.

Brian that looks sic bro.
You can always get a corner man, they go for cheap now a days. I was at Sports Authority the other night they have several models ranging from $70-$99. You can even get a double boxing stand that holds both speed bag and heavy bag for $99. Fits right in the corner.
How much did your wrestling mat cost? I want one of those.

I think the mat was around $400 a few years ago and has held up nicely.
The cornerman is a good idea. I need to check them out at academy, our local sports store.

http://www.academy.com/index.php?page=co...0429-00719-0870 Here's one at academy for $130, but then you have to buy the bag, speed bag, and weights to hold it down. That will end up costing more than I'm thinking it's worth. The purpose of a heavy bag is so that you can move around, use footwork, and let the swinging be your feedback. With this one you're pretty much stuck in one spot and you might fall on those weights on either side)or atleast I would!). I'm thinking I need one of these. http://www.academy.com/index.php?page=co...0427-00719-0176 A few years ago they went for $300, so $200 is not a bad price. It won't give you the feedback swing, but it would work for kicking and punching.

Thanks Brad! Where you teach is not nearly as important as the quality of teaching and I know yours is top notch. We worked out outside for many many years, it's over rated and now I'm soft.

What made ya start your own thing? It more or less just fell into place. I happen to get a house with a huge spare room that was a dojo, but it didn't know it yet.

This reminds me of our schools belt testings last year. We share our dojo through park and rec in town. We have the room for our Monday and Wednesday class. We get one side and the Aikido class has the other side. Well our sensei always signs out the room on a Saturday for testing. Anyway our testing was scheduled over by some other activity. What happened? Garage testing is what happened. Sweet!! The space was tight, but throw down some mats and move the cars and WHA-BAM!!! Belt testing in a 2 car garage. At least we were able to do the push-ups, crunches,.....(more pain inducing activities) outside. Anyway that will always be remembered as a good time had by all. I liked it so much that I requested that we have another testing in the sensei garage.....No luck with that. I would guess that he had to clean up his garage and he didn't want to do that.
keep after it, Mark
