Not saying it doesn't happen, but it IS rare. Far more people get punched and don't die than do.

Not saying it doesn't happen, but it IS rare. Far more people get punched and don't die than do. I once had a talk with a police officer who saw a lot of action, as in street altercations. He said that in his experience not many people know how to throw an effective punch. Add alcohol and they lose coordination as well. That may be the reason for a relative lack of fatalities.

Something like this happened to the British former WAKO champion Alfie Lewis a few years ago. Some men were vandalising his car, so he got out. One threw a punch and he retailiated. The guy fell and hit his head and died. Lewis was charged with manslaughter but found not guilty (see, sometimes the legal system does work properly!).

Not at all Matt, back of head injuries from the head hitting the pavement, is quite a common occurrence. Death can easily result from it.
think about it if you get KO'd your body falls and your head impacts the ground in a whip like action. if you fall then your neck muscles will automatically pull the head up to avoid such impact. But if you are unconscious at the time then there is going to be no resistance and the head is going to hit the ground almost like it was dropped.
There are plenty of reports in the news about this kind of accidental death, if your a Cricket fan You may have heard about David Boon (an Aussie) dieing from a punch by a bouncer. it was the head impact on the cement that did it not the punch.
just recently in Australia, we had a national "One Punch Can Kill" awareness campaign. followed by "Don't Make a Night Out into a Nightmare" campaign which highlights this danger among many others.
with all the risks involved it just isn't worth fighting in the streets I've heard and read of this happening many times over the years. It's not "common" per say, but it happens too often. I worked with a guy who got 15yrs for killing someone like this in a bar. He punched the guy, then the guy fell and hit hit head, thus killing him. Don't punch people, there may very well be unintended consequences.

I've always prefered punching people in the liver or kidney.
I like inflicting pain, nothing makes me smile like a guy on the floor crying like a baby, and urinating blood the next morning.
(This is just a joke. I've never injured someone that badly before lol).

I wish there were more details in the article about WHY he was punched in the first place...all it says is that it wasn't random and they knew each other lol, that isn't very helpful. That is crazy though.
