Hello DojiSan:

You are quite welcome. Its what I do for a living crazy <returning said bow even more deeply> Ancient thread but good topic!

<<NO SUGAR one to two hours before class, like candies-softdrinks-cakes-ice cream smile.

Unfortunately this is a silly myth.

Caffeine, could cause trouble maybe, but sugar will not, even with children who are diabetics, etc. Worst possible case re: excess sugar might cause a sharp drop-off of bloodsugar meaning a "crash" with them having no energy rather than excess!

<<Second is I've acquired a few assistant instructors from my junior class (helping me teach class is one requirement for them to advance in belt).

Uggggggh, compulsory assistants. eek If they/I do not wish to teach what then? If they solely wish to study but not ever teach the art... still required? As a parent, regardless of the fact I teach for a living I can certainly keep little Timmy from touching his classmates, seperate him if he is ~uncontrolled~.

Are your assistants kids or grown-ups? Any of your assistants have training in behavior modification? Special Education?
You might want to role play some scenerios for grins and giggles.

Jeff

sounds like you have some good ideas. I've had to deal with that to. I work with several kids that have ADHD. And I have two kids that are cousins and the bigger one is always punching and kicking the smaller one. So the bigger kids is getting real good with pushups. Ye getts to do 100 pushups everytime he horseplays and punches his cousin. But unfortunatly that doesn't get him to quit doing that. A attention getter is circuits. I always have a couple of timers in my gym. If it's early and I grab the timer, the kids already know they screwed up and there doing circuits. Sometimes I go to grab the timer and they automaticly perk up and listen. So there getting fairly use to the timer thing. What I do for circutis is minute drills doing jumpen jacks, pushups, sit-ups, side step one way, then side steps the other way, side kicks and some times I through in burpies.

Hello ScottBolinger:

What precisely is a "circuit" re: teaching kids in this case? What does a circuit entail exactly?

As for the cousins, considered having HIM explain to mom or dad (with you) WHY he was sitting out of your class. Hitting anything (without permission) is one of the completely forbidden actions in our classes. Others are on that list, but hitting is totally forbidden, and they can ONLY watch the class for doing so.

"...Correct actions have positive consequences, incorrect actions have negative consequences..."
