disturbing. You don't need to learn a MA to know how to kill. And I think we practice to defend life not take it. Unless aboslutely necessary.

hmm well, i just wanna know how. though i do know a guy who does killing arts, but he says he's killed about 3 ppl and can't control whether he does it or not, sometimes it comes from his subconcious, so it's always a risk. if i really wanted to kill some1, could just K.O then snap their neck, but i just wanna know 'other ways'.

Adding to the original post by ChenZen I suggest also watching the senior students to see how they behave. Do they show respect to the teacher, each other and the junir students. Are they keen to help you through those difficult early days or more interested in showing off. They should inspire you to want to emulate them.

Leaving aside master's slightly disturbing quest for death skills and adding to Chen Zen's orginal post:
When visiting a school also check out the senior students in the class. Are they respectful to the teacher, each other and the junior students. Are they keen to help you through those difficult early days or are they more interested in showing off their own skills? Do they inspire you to want to gain their knowledge. Senior students are a reflection of their teacher and should exhibit self discipline, loyalty and commitment. Ideally they should be approachable and provide a bridge between instructor and junior student - in the traditional Chinese set up the school was like a family with the senior students acting as elder brothers or sisters.

You should also check to see if the instructors teaching style is one you can get along with. Some instructors are rigid disciplinarians which suit some people not others, some are more open and chatty etc. Can the instructor talk the talk and walk the walk? Can he explain the concepts in a way that make sense to you as well as demonstrate them effectively? If so you have hit the motherlode.

Good luck and happy hunting.

uhhh why does every1 think learning death skills is disturbing? Chinese martial arts was created in a hostile environment, so i wanna learn what it was sometimes used for.

It was a different era, a time when your skills were all that stood between you and rampaging warlords, bandits and even government troops stealing all you had, forcing you into joining their bands or death. We don't face these any more in a lawful society. Human life is valued more highly now and very few instructors would want to teach someone who claims they wish to know how to kill. Don't idolise death, life isn't a playstation game or die hard movie.
There's only one reason to need to know killing moves and thats to avoid them. ie if you are being taught a strike the instructor needs to let you know if you hit a particular part of the body it could lead to death so you would know to avoid that.

i don't ever plan to use it. i can lose control and perform it from my subconcious mind. if i ever truly wanted to kill some1, just K.O and snap their neck. at least that way, ur always in control.
