Asthma at 30!

Hello all
I have just been diagnosed with asthma and been prescribed 2 inhalers 1 to control and prevent (a steriod), the other to take when attack occurs.
I must admit I am a bit gutted, up until last year I had never had any symptoms, played sport (football or Squash) EVERY week for 19 years excluding periods of injury. I will continue to paticipate in these activities as well as MA but it just means I sometimes have to have a puff (oer) during these activities. There thats my self pity rant over,
My question, has anyone else been diagnosed with asthma outside of or in late 20's? How did it make you feel? Did you/can you just grow out of it at this age?

sorry my post may not have been clear,
up until last year I had never had any symptoms, since then I have had an attack that ended up with me in hospital and since I have had inhaler (given to me on this visit) I have had attacks with various triggers, excersise, some processed foods and times of day, usually in the morning
Cheers

Hiho,
I'm mercifully free of asthma, though my father was recently misdiagnosed with it in his early sixties. I know others who have it and it's often more of an irritation than anything more serious. My understanding (I am not a doctor, as well you know) of it follows...
Asthma can spring up at any time in life; it's often at its worst during the twenties and thirties (these are also the times of highest risk for its initial occurrence). As you're fairly fit, it shouldn't create too many problems.
You can, through fastidious avoidance of chemical triggers and being aware enough to reduce your exertion before you attack (regaining control through breathing), send it into remission and see the attacks reduce or disappear. Your doctor will probably lower the corticosteroid dosage over time as you improve and possibly reduce it to nothing eventually. As I said, this is dependent upon your improvement, which means avoiding attacks wherever possible.

nice one
I am eating non processed foods(corned beef nearly killed me 3 months ago!! apparently sulpher/ites or ates are common preservatives and bad !)and keeping fit as you both suggest.
problem is attacks have been getting more frequent over the last few months but I have been reading it can be stress/ psychologically triggered also which would make sense.
anyway just knackered my right shoulder and pectoral.... haven't had any asthma today so will just crack on with current ailment!!??
your father mis-diagnosed? that really gets me hope they got there in the end..
cheers for posts
