We are planning to initiate the process to upgrade the BBS software in the next 24-48 hours.

During this process the system will be taken down for the installation. Hopefully it will not be down for a long time but it will depend on whether there are any glitches in the process.

OK guys it's done!

As you can see I have substantially restored the layout customization including the ads (sorry they are a necessary evil.)

I have checked and adjusted some of the obvious features and I activated 'captcha' for registration.

I also activated the 'portal', which is a new feature and I put some of the default features into it. Your admins will likely want to add some things to it as we all learn how to use it.

I set some conservative limits on file/image sizes. For the moment please keep them conservative but don't hesitate to make them smaller if you think it's getting out of control.

The Admins should bookmark that url and check it before trying to activate anything new. On that note, please go carefully when activating new features. We want to get the most out of the new system but we don't want to overload it with stuff.

OK I am going from here to turn the system back on. I know it was a long time coming so I thank you all for your patience and your support.

Apparently this "upgrade" is more like an brand new installation and as noted in the MA Talk forum, many of the existing settings need to be checked and adjusted as needed.

I set the permissions on all of the user forums so that people can post new topics and reply - the normal stuff. The forum permissions are very complex partially because of all of the new features in this version of the software, so if features are not available that you think should be, the Admin needs to check those permission screens. Unfortunately, I could not find a way to change the permissions wholesale, so I had to do it one forum at a time. Probably safer that way but because this is such a large system, it was a bit of a pain in the butt.
