You could, but kata is not a better way to train for mma.

I am not talking about better or worse, just its usefulness. So you still have not answered the question. What type of fighting, other than self defense, is kata training good for if any? You said you could, but what specifically can it be used for. People have to me it is not useful for fighting in MMA at all. That is a very specific statement so what combative situation can it specifically be used for?

And I'm not setting anyone up. I simply ask questions. At least I didn't say you were trying to set up a kata marketing scheme and sell online down loads of your goju kata applications.

Once again Victor you have said something that went over peoples' heads, judging from zero comment. Says something, doesn't it?

I don't know, ask Brian. I asked if kata prepared him for anything other than self defense and he brought up MMA. I guess there is the Lyoto Machida thread. However, I am not talking about MMA specifically.

More like, those that appreciated/understood it, didn't feel the need to comment.

LOL. Didn't go over my head - I just don't agree with that at all. Can't have "energy release" without resistance, IMHO.

I appreciated the word 'signature' the most. Would you agree if he had said 'synaptic' or 'kinetic' instead of 'energy'?

Hi Matt, as you paid for the coffee last time I'll just respectfully disagree with you.

Earlier Oldman posted http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9FzCuz-rFk

You can't get a cleaner example of kata for the development of energy release.

I came from the days when kata was just kata, and I firmly believe that is the case. All of the other attributes are achieved through other tools of usage in study, IMO, but kata is where you perfect technique execution, increased energy release, etc.
