Felt like sharing a story. Me my missus and best mate were out at surfers paradise clubbing friday night, and we were sitting down eating when some drunk idiot came up to us and started hitting on my girlfriend, so I told him I was with her. Anyway he just told me he didnt give a ****, and that he would kick our asses if we did anything. anyway, I stood up and told him to get f***ed, to which he pulled out a knife and started threatening all of us. anyways my mate smashed the bottle he had and told the bloke to [censored] off, to which he ran away.

anyways we finished eating and walked outside about half an hour later, and about 6 guys, including the knife dude started walking towards us and throwing bottles and calling us [censored] and stuff, so we went back inside and called our mates up to get us.
anyways our mates get there and got us, and we went outside to sort the guys out. as soon as they saw there was more of us than them they ran down the street like greased lightning.

I dont know what the morale of the story is, but that sort of thing really gives me the f**ing sh*ts
im considering buying a huge knife to take around with me, its illegal but you almost need it these days.

anyone else got any stories like that? or comments?

hmmm, I don't know about Australia law, but in the states, if someone threatens you with a knife, they go to jail. Wouldn't it have been easier to just have the police deal with them instead of calling friends to help fight a gang of them? If they had a gun, they might not have run like greased lightning, but instead fired a few rounds into you guys.

Moral of the story: Take your girlfriend to a nicer class of restaurant you cheap-a$$. or: get a girlfriend who tells other guys to get lost herself because she wants to be with you, not enjoy te attention of other men.

Comment: For a minute I thought you had grown a brain when you said you had retreated inside to phone friends to come get you- then you let me down by saying you all went out to fight- with at least one guy you knew was armed, plus his friends. Genius plan Einstein

Lets say you buy yourself a knife. now lets play your scenario out with you carrying said weapon.

The guy chats up your girlfriend, you row, he pulls his knife, so you pull yours. What now? What if he doesnt run away? you going to use it? Why? because he talked to your girlfriend? How many uys is she going to talk to when waiting for you to get out of jail?

Yep. There was a guy I had just met at Uni, we were in a group, drunk and messing around having 'sword fights' with rolled up magazines. I was owning him, and it pi$$ed him off a bit so *click* he pulled a switchblade. Everyone just froze, including me. i asked him calmly what he was doing, and he said he didnt know- just that he didnt like being hit on the head with the magazine. i asked if he wanted to use the knife- he said 'not really', and so I said that was cool, and the atmosphere relaxed a bit. I told him I thought the knife was wicked (it was- a pearl handle inlay, lovely), and asked if I could see it. He said 'sure' and handed it over. I immediately dropped him like a sack of sh*t and left him bleeding on the ground, telling him he was lucky I didnt stab him, and told him he was never to carry it around me again.
Turns out he was like you- worried about attack, and had the knife for 'protection'. Alcohol made him draw it unwisely, and this, ironically, led him to get a broken nose for his trouble- the very sort of thing he was trying to avoid in the first place.

Crab, you can be a young fool, dont promote yourself to a complete f*cking idiot.

Then why the hell go there? especially with your GF. Take her nice places, do nice things. Surround yourself with good positive people and you will never need your fists, let alone a blade.

What is 'fair'?. A fight is about asserting dominance over another, or injuring them whilst incurring less injury yourself. You want 'fair' then take up a sport, dont look for it in a freakin bar full of drunks

surfers is the only place you can go, its where every nightclub, restaurant and thing to do is within miles. its just one of those violent places unfortunately.

I phoned them because I was worried about my girlfriend. but honestly what would you do? your telling me if some seedy 20 year old bogan started telling your wife how hot she was while she was at a table with you, you would just sit there?
I dont go around starting fights, and you might think im an idiot for doing it, but youd do the same thing. some people take stuff too far

Absolutely. my wife has no problem taking a compliment, nor telling the person giving it that she only has eyes for me.
You need to develop trust in your partner, not your knife collection.

How is talking to your GF taking things 'too far'? a girl is like a handful of sand- squeeze your grip tightly, and watch it run through your fingers before your very eyes.

You cant pull a knife on everyone who talks to your GF- you will end up dead, or in prison, or with a criminal record that makes you unemployable; and for what? The chances of this chick being 'the one' are slim to zero. And if there is a real chance that she would go off with a guy when she is dating you, then you already know that she isnt worth the aggro you are making for yourself.

your right about what you said, but I dont think you read it right, I calmly told the dude I was with her, and then he went crazy at us

your making me sound like a complete [censored], i dont go around beating up people that talk to my girlfriend, but when someone pulls a knife on us thats just too far

does she (or you?) have a problem with getting yelled at and threatened?
thats what I meant by taking it too far.

Crab, what i am saying is that its not your job to announce to a guy that your girlfriend is just that. The first person to say that should be your GF herself, then he gets the message from a non - threatening source, and he does not feel the instinct to 'save face'. You saying 'hey mate, leave her be, she is with me' instantly removes thew girl from the situation, demoting her to 'property' to be contested over. This is all subconcious instinct- it cant be helped. Leave it to her next time, and you will probably have a quieter night.

Fights aren't supposed to be fair. Contests are. Fights are to be avoided, or - if inevitable - ended abruptly and decisively with anything at your disposal.

Though in the SD module of my weekend training camp the instructor jokingly discussed picking an attacher back up because he wasn't done yet

The best way to be end a fight, is to use your mouth instead of your fists, at my school, there are so many idiots that push me in the back, now, if i turn around and make a big deal of it, and act all annoyed, then that's when they take the mickey, and get what they want. So, i calmly say to them something like, why did u push me in the back, and if they say cos i wanted to, id say something like, well, that was intelligent of you.

The problem is, i study jeet kune do, which is an aggressive martial art, it's a SF art, yes, but, instead of blocking then pushing, as soon as you see the punch coming, you either block and attack in one attack, or you attack them fist, before they have a chance to make contact - your best defense is offense tactic.

Anyway

This tall lanky kid a year older than me was hurling offensive comments at me, i told him that if he has a problem with me, then he should come up to me, and say it to me eye-to- eye, not 20 metres away from me, not, he isn't a bad person really, but was trying to act tuff to his mates, so he came over looking all cocky etc, i didn't want a fight, cos i would have badly hurt him, he reminds me of the guy in Game Of Death that bruce lee fights, y'know, so he suddenly swung a punch at me, as he was obviously not a fighter, her threw a biigg, rooouuunnndd, slow, uncoordinated punches. I just pushed him really hard on his shoulder, so that it gave him a dead shoulder, this was when the punch was at about 6 o'clock in it's flight. He grasped his arm, and got in a rage, throwing punches all over the place, i simply stepped back, examined, gave a few punches to his face, then a real good punch to his stomach, with perfect from, i felt the energy from it, but, i did pull my punches abit, as i felt abit sorry that he was that desperate.

Anyway, i got him in a wrist lock, so his palm was pushed into his forearm, and then collapsed his leg by kicking the back of is leg said to him, that he should hang around with friends who appreciate who he is, and not mix with the wrong people and have to fight to prove it. anyway, he was okay, recovered fully in about a week, i think it just shocked him.

The morale is, that most of these people a either drunk, or have been brought up badly, they weren't born like it.

btw, i had no aggression at the beginning of it, and he threw the first punch.

Another problem is that, the person who lands the first punch is 9/10 times the of the fight, so you should always be on your toes in those sort of situations, and just look to see if any part of him is twitching etc. and then you'll know.

At least the "morale" is always high in these stories.
Where's The Master when you need him?

Jeeze what is it whith Aussies, alchohol, and fighting? In the past year I've been in 2 serious fights. TWO! I know another guy whose been in 5 or 6 and he's the most aggressive guy I know. You've been in what, 50? Here we have football for a national pastime, there you have drunken brawling.

Hey Cord-

Why are you so averse to confrontation even when it's justified? The Crab did exactly the right thing. You're SUPPOSED to stick up for your girl when someone gives her unwanted attention. What is your solution, just sit back and say, "Oh sure my good man, she's great. Can I interest you in a room and smokes as well?" D*****bag.

That story reminds me of the kids during my high school days that got confrontational when another guy merely looked at their girlfriend.

"Don't look at my girl!"

Haha, good times. Good times.

I think if you read cords post you would know why. Like cord said, when the guy interjected the drunk dude now is pi$$ed or getting there maybe even thinking of the guy as a threat. I agree and that the g/f should have deescalated the situation. My wife would be the first to tell someone that she is with me. If then the guy doesn't get the hint then I get involved. Also, like cord said go to nicer places.

I resent that!
Seriously, though, I don't know where Miami gets this bum rep. There are rough parts of town where it's unsafe to walk to the grocery store after dark. In most neighborhoods, people feel, and are, safe.
South Beach, the main club scene here, has it's share of drunken fools making scenes. The same as any other place in the world where you get a mix of young, sometimes immature, people looking for kicks, clubs, alcohol and, unfortunately, an illicit drug trade. However, there's not a club or bar I can think of where things would be allowed to escalate to the degree of this incident. The club's bouncers, as well as the police, would be involved in a heartbeat.

Dude, then don't go! Buy a couple of six packs, get a sound system, call your friends and hang out at your place or theirs.
To me, having a drink with friends is about fun. If it involves hanging out in a rough atmosphere, where my woman is apt to be insulted, fights are common, people pull knives, there's no security people to keep a lid on things and the police don't bother to come, where's the fun???? I'd be so alert and tense, I wouldn't be able to relax, much less enjoy myself.
You make it sound like you don't have a choice in the matter, just like you don't have a choice about carrying a knife around. Fact is you do, and it seems you choose this environment, and want to be told you have no choice but to pack a blade. Well, I'm not going to. Hang out in that type of place, expect trouble. Use a blade, expect at best to do jail time, at worst to be gutted like a fish by some other fool with a knife.

Lol! My comment was intended to say that the Gold Coast is actually very quiet and peaceful - not that Miami is particularly violent or unsafe! (Miami and the Gold Coast have similar climates and "lifestyle").

Otherwise I agree with you and Cord. Don't go out if you keep getting in trouble.

I used to go to the Gold Coast (Surfer's Paradise) every year on holiday (my father's family lives there). Never had a cross word with anyone. If anyone ever called out some drunken nonsense I'd just smile and wave. Then go back to the apartment and look in the fridge...

Oh, hey, that's the spirit in which I took your remark.
That said, though, I wrote what I did thinking of other readers. The fact is that during what got to be called the "Cocaine Wars" of the late 70s and 80s, violence in Miami, which was the focal point for cocaine traffic at the time, got to be outrageous. Those times are long gone, but the image of wildness is still with us, unfairly. Just setting the record straight.

.. lol how funny. just this night i was at the police because i got into some trouble. yes. some ppl are ar$es!

i was walking down the street on my way to my gf´s house when i heard some girl screaming.
i took a look around the corner and saw 4 guys surrounding a girl holder her hands and pulling her to the ground by the hair and one slapping her into the face. i quickly called my friends which work in a bar around the corner and told them to call the police and an abulance to the place where i was.

i told them not to come because i did not know if any1 of these guys were armed or smthg. so i didnt want to put my friends and danger.

then i just ran in and tackled to of them to the ground and started going berserk. aparently i could free the girl from the guys but she was so shocked that she just couldnt get up and/or run away.

the second when the 4 guys got up and surrounded now the two of us was the second when i though "oh [censored]". (i laugh now thinking back, since i am still alive.... but then.. :S)

i just thought that i would have to attack them and not letting them attack me (i would stand no chance if 2 would grap me and 2 would hold me)

aparently i grapped the biggest guy and started head butting him and giving him some nice low kicks (i rly thanked my muay thai teacher 2day) and keeping my hands up all the time for defense.

aperently my "wild" and "aggressive" behaivour stunned the other guys and say saw how quick and accurate i was elbowing and punching and kicking around me. this probably saved me.

my friends came just a moment later (even though i didnt tell them but okay.. iw ould do the same for them) and fell over the other 3. we didnt beat them up anymore. jsut made sure they had no knives or anything with them. there is no need to beat them up if we are 25 ppl and they 4.

the police arrived a few minutes later (always late... t.t)

the girl is okay. but the has a scar now in her face. she´ll also get some psychological assistance now.

the boy slapping her (the ones face i cracked) was apreently her ex-bf. she quitted on him and he couldnt deal with it. him and his friends waited for her in front of her house and he asked her to be with him again. she said no and this was his reactions. come on ppl... what the F***?!?!?!

i am mostly fine. my body and my face have some blueish/black spots and my jaw hurts like hell (i took a few punches). but i am okay.

its weird that we´re living in the year 2008 and sh1t like this still happens..

i just hope the girl get well soon.

the boys now have to deal with the curt..
