Is there another term, besides ryoto, for the using the katana and wakizashi together? I was speaking with someone who mentioned something along the lines of the word "neti" to describe a style that uses the two swords at once.

Sometimes the word "nito" is used...is that what you were looking for?

Well, the most famous style using both the katana and the wakizashi at once, was that founded by Japan's most iconic ronin, Miyamoto Musashi. It was originally called nito ryu ("two-sword school"... how daringly original ), but was later renamed niten ryu (Niten being the named Musashi used to sign most of what he wrote). As far as I am aware, that style is extinct (I hear Musashi is known to have had a few students, but I don't think any track of them was kept).

That's about all I know on the matter. I think the regulars of this forum should be able to give you some better information.

I was not really sure what I was looking for exactly so this may very well be it. It was a word I was unfamiliar with so I tried looking it up and nothing came up. I do remember that he ended the term with an "ee" sound. which is why I didnt make the nito connection. But he may have meant niten ryu and mispronounced it.

Glad to hear I was wrong, even if the chances for me to learn it some day are about as high as those of waking up with a supermodel in my bed. I always feel sorry to hear that some valuable lore got lost in history... Which unfortunately happens but too often in the martial arts world.
