Does anyone have anything to do with the Guardian Angels?

I'm curious as to whether they have a set training system or whether they just use whatever experience the chapter members happen to have.

I once interviewed the Manchester and London Chapters in UK and their training involved some grappling and basic SD moves. I believe Mo Teague was later involved with the London Chapter, so they probably have a rather broad repetoire now (if they are still in existence).

I know there was an attempt to start some Swedish and German chapters.

I think the Guardian Angels have become more an idea than an organiztion per se. They exist as a collection of autonomous local groups and are tough to generalize about. We had them here in Chicago for a long time, but they seemed pretty poorly organized. They seemed to have no set schedule; they'd show up on the L the train for a couple of days then would disappear for months. They had a sort of HQ in Uptown, but it never seemed to be open. You get the idea.

fileboy, do thy still exist in Chicago?
In UK they had chapters in London and Manchester. Now only the London one exists. I think they stopped doing street patrols too.

Not suprised- those red berets are a perfect target for bricks. Britain just isn't a culture that is compatable with the guardian angels:-

I can't see it working in the UK either. Different culture and different problems needs a different solution.

Personally I think it could work, but it'd be a hard slog to get it going. The Chav culture in this really does need a group of public individuals who aren't afraid of the cowardly parasites terrorising the streets of our isle AND having the backing of the Police. Trouble is, and the scumbag's know this, that the law in this country prosecutes the easiest targets and that's usually the victims. A friend of mine earlier in the year who is a 20 stone 6 foot 2 Black Dreadlocked Bouncer was actually mugged by a group of about 6 or 7 18 or 19 year olds. He fought back, dropped his phone in the ruckus (which they grabbed) and then was arrested by the Police and held in the cells. They actually brought the group in and they had my mates phone on them...yet the Police still pursued the charges!

This had two worrying implications for me. Firstly what these kids perceived as a 'victim' was astonishing to me. Not being racist in the slightest, but if I were picking a victim it would be a 20 stone Black guy. So the confidence and lack of fear of these scum is outrageous, they have absolutely no idea of consequence. And secondly the fact my friend was actually arrested and charges were still pursued charges once they knew for certain he was a victim of a crime. What sort of message is that sending?

Any group such as the guardian Angels would be a toothless Tiger or put out of business because all of its members would be banged up.

I think we'd need a group with authority and backing to be taken seriously. Trouble then the tree huggers would pipe up saying how the human rights of the parasites are being violated. My personal take is once you stop acting like a human being you void all rights associated with the status!

Exactly why it wouldn't work. The authorities make it impossible to legally defend yourself. The police are the only people who can act to protect the population, if the government (effectively) takes away our rights to defend ourselves, they must bear the full responsibility for defending us (and even the police's hands are often tied). In the case of the Guardian Angels, they would probably all end up serving jail sentences for their criminal attempts to protect others.

This is the unfortunate reality. Much as I'd love to see the Guardian Angels assisting the local law enforcement, it's unlikely to happen.

The chavs aren't the problem, the problem is the policy makers. If people changed the way they voted and demanded changes, they might come about. I've not seen any major changes in the doublespeak policies of any of the political parties in the UK though.

Yeah I agree totally, and this is one of the reasons I gave up Doorwork.

One way or t'other though eventually somethings got to change. Either with the total break down of society, which means no laws and I get to bash Scumbags legally (by virtue that there aren't any laws) or society mans up, tell's the policy makers to go forth and starts bashing Scumbags (legally via means of self defence)....either way, eventually, I'll be able to bash Scumbags. I'm just waiting for Anarchy or a revolution....which ever route we take I'm stockpiling weapons for the party!

Cord, you'll be up for it won't you?

Much as the former sounds much more fun, I think the latter is more likely. The next generation of voters is completely [censored] off with the legacy left by the former generation of voters, I'm pretty sure there's likely to be changes soon-ish.

Jesting aside, I think it'll be the latter also. The good thing about the down trodden is that they only have one way to go, and once we've gone as low as there is to go Newton's 3rd law comes into effect. Trouble is I don't think we've quite hit the bottom yet. So what we have to do at the moment, IMO anyway, is batten down the hatches, make sure we set the example by looking after our own back yards properly, help others to keep theirs in order and sooner or later lots of little people spreading a bit consciousness into the mindless bile pool that society has become, will hopefully shine through. The difficulty many have is not becoming disillusioned and falling foul of the same ills plaguing us at the moment.....

God that was a bit heavy....WE WANT ANARCHY!!!!

I wanted to be more upbeat than Gavin but unfortunately I can only agree with much of what he's said, so all I'll say is that for someone whose life is changing in positive ways, you're in a very dark place, my friend.
