You sound like you are very knowledgable in weight lifting and strength training. But idk about 10 minute rests, even if you are able to push your muscles beyond the 'average' lifter. Even so, idk about 10 minutes

Even if that is a normal rest time for the larger muscle groups for advanced lifters, I'm sure you could cut the time if you wanted. I've heard that moderate cardio such as cycling or using the treadmill can cut down rest time and actually help you keep energized, allowing you to get more reps or lift more weight in each successive set. Just a suggestion if you wanted to cut time.

I aggree it is not necessary for most people. I recommend the first or second workout routine on my webpage. If they want do my 3 day split. I would advise them to only take the 5 minute breaks and throw in 4 sets of leg press between squats and deadlifts.

As for cutting time, I have had to do it on a few occasions when I had to leave early. I end up sacraficing either weight or reps. That is not the worse thing in the world but I don't want to make that trade-off.

I have much more time on fridays. The class is not that good for getting complete weight workouts.

I don't understand why people bother with push-ups...if I had a weighted vest I might consider doing them but I'd probably just do dips instead.

Hi

Might it be that pushups can also be a conditioning exercise such as push ups on the knuckles/finger tips etc?

I train weights and push ups.

I will use a belt if going realy heavy on most weigthed exercises.

Just my preference.

Nice. I would point out that at the top of each rep, you are rotating back into position, having twisted to your left slightly on exertion. This would indicate a slight imbalance in hip drive or tightness in the lower back that you might want to address when not pushing near your max.

Thanks for your comments guys.

This weeks featured exercise is Bent Over Rows.

Bent over rows are too often neglected in many training routines. This exercise strengthens the upper back muscles. The upper back is only second to the legs in strength and leverage. As part of my SCA training , maintaining a strong upper back gives me significant advantage in a lot of side to side pushing and manipulating of other fighters.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYLZTXwx_pU

Note 1: No upper back routine is complete without some good old fashioned pull ups. Some people use lat machines, but I find that my body weight is just right for 4 sets of 10 reps.

Note 2: You build up the lower back strength necessary for this exercise with deadlifts. I will cover that in a future vid.

nice!

Do you ever do them with a closer underhand grip? I got into doing them like that when I was bodybuilding , and pulling the bar to just below the sternum a la Dorian Yates- made a nice variation
