I'd recommend a staggered stance so you can learn to focus on your offense right off the bat. You should be doing drop-steps until you are about sick of them.

LOL, folks have lots of terms for this and that but as far as I'm concerned your stance is square or staggered as a matter of degrees. If your offense develops in a very specific way where you find a more and more staggered stance helps your shot then you will adjust as you go. Most folks are moderately staggered.
