first i want to say, i really like this site!

as a teacher a form for business is exactly what i need. i am a member of membership success and MATA, and another one i cant think of the company yet. the problem with all three of them, they spent there time wanting school owners to do afterschool karate, little munkie classes etc.

i am a teacher of strong martial arts for adults who want tough training. i been in business since 1992, and you know what, that stuff they say you cant do -- like no contracts, and no sparring with contact -- i do all of it.

anybody want to share ideas for advertising for adult martial arts (not tae bo)?

If you're doing full contact sparing, that's great, but be sure you have them sign a waiver of liability, and even then carry insurance because eventually someone's gonna get a bloody nose and sue you.

Newspapers, flyers, word of mouth, would be your most cost effective forms of advertisements.

Sounds like some great work you're doing. I'd be careful how you advertise with the word 'adult' tho'! ;-)

thank you. yeah we have waiver and insurance. the kind of students i have is not going to sue anyway, because many of them comes from shopping center karate, and they like the training. and we had so many injuries in the school its rediculous. broken nose, cut lips (from teeth), all kinds of fractures from stick fighting, even knocked outs. but you know what the person with the most broken bones in the class? me. i am 5'7", and 190, but most of my students are way bigger, but they dont come from sparring mostly, they come from holding targets, and impact training. one time i broke my thumb when i was breaking up two knuckle heads who lost their temper.

i get lots of people from yellow pages, website, and flyers. of course sometimes they join because they heard from somebody else, and join that way. my goal, is add 50 students.
