I have been reading The Science of Martial Arts Training by Charles Staley and am wondering if his work out theory of periodization actually works?
Lets say you have a competition in 8 months. Thats call the macrocycle. You break up the macrocycle in "preperation" and "competition". Preperation is anywhere between two - four months depending how in shape you are, and competition is 3-4 months, with a month afterwords to rest and transist into your next macrocycle.
In preperation phase you do high volume, low weight with sparring a little bit. Some weightlifintg, swimming, jump roping, and the like. Basically getting your body completely ready to start doing the heavy competitive training.
When you reach the competitive cycle, its basically your "peak". You spar more, lift more times a week and heavier with low volume high intensity.
Supposedely when your done with that macrocycle youll do less preperation and you will surpas your strength in the second macrocycle.
Any thoughts? If you read my other post about me being injured, this seems like it could help or work to stave off the injury. BUt it would feel wierd not weight lifting everyday.
