I was always told you shouldn't exercise within four hours of going to bed. While the statement seems to be true, I was wondering why it's true.

I dont see why not, exercise ups your metabolic rate and as a result you would burn more calories during the night, and eating at night would do the same I would assume.

so i dunno.

Yes, it does. The problem is that a sleep requires a lower metabolic rate, and exercising too close to bed time can keep you awake (by elevating the metabolism). Lack of rest can hinder your training otherwise. That said, some people have no problem exercising before bed and falling right asleep.

If you are having trouble falling asleep, then exercise earlier to give your metabolism time enough to "cool off" or "slow down".
