when i was 17 i was 'a long streak of p*ss' or so i was told, ate like a horse so not to be, didn't work, then at, i dont know?...27 weight piled on, fat i mean ....now i'm 'a long streak of p*ss' again and if anyone was to call me this as before i wouldn't feel insulted anymore--chuffed more like!....enjoy being skinny because they'll come a time being skinny can be hard work at times (actually, truth be known i'd like to gain a few pounds in muscle, which is what you want, so maybe ignore my mumbling!)

In your case it just probably means you're a step ahead on the evolutionary ladder. Just curious though, what is your nationality? It is hereditary is it not?

thats what i was thinking, i also heard that growing doesnt usually slow down until you hit around 25. if i were you i would be very happy i am not over weight - if you knew what it felt like - you would wish for 115 back. don't worry about it - in time your metabolism will catch up with you.

Go to the gym and lift weights. Maybe you do this already, I'm not too sure. But if you do keep this in mind: it's not the amount you weigh, but how strong, how fit, and how well you can use your body. That's how i feel about weight.

Sounds to me like this is normal. There isn't anything wrong. Unless you actually don't eat right. If you do then your most likely built like a jockey. It's just how your body is built.

Don't worry so much about your weight. It's your skills that matter. Besides, think of it this way, less mass means you make less effort to make more speed. You can floor a bigger guy because you're faster. Trust me, I'm 5ft 2" and I used to Muay Thai box against a 6ft 3" guy. He used to hate sparring with me because I made him dizzy! Make the best of your body shape until you fill out. If you don't fill out - nothing wrong with that. I actually prefer my men lean than over muscle bound huge anyway!

It is frequently hard for adolescent boys to gain weight during their growning years. Males can continue to grow up to about age 21. Most of the growth is done by the time a male is a daily shaver. If you start your growth late, you can feel like you'll never bulk up compared to age mates who started growing earlier. It is not unusual for boys to hit a year when they grow 6 inches or even more. This kind of growth demands calories. If your body mass index is really low for your age norms, then talk to your doctor. Please look at this web site http://apps.nccd.cdc.gov/dnpabmi/Calculator.aspx and find out if you are really underweight. Then if you are, talk to your doctor.

I had never seen this before and was curious. I'm 38 but I decided to plunk my information into this showing as a 17 year old (born 1989) with my measurements at my actual age of 17. To no surprise I listed as 23.2 at the 67th percentile and had a healthy weight. Now entering the same year as a 17 year old and listing my measurements now, I listed as 28.9 at the 95th percentile and I "may be" overweight. Not over weight in the least due to the larger amount of muscle mass ... but interesting none the less.

To the original poster of this thread, I wouldn't worry about your weight ... never go by weight as that is deceiving. If you are healthy, energetic, eating properly and have no problems performing your daily feats or activities ... then NO PROBLEM.

Weight is never a good indication of if you are healthy or not, let alone what you should aspire to. Measurements of body parts, how your close feel on you, how you perform, how you feel (healthy/unhealthy), energy output, etc. ... these mean much more. You are young and you will grow according to your genetics and how you eat and exercise. Just take care of yourself and be happy with who YOU are.

Don't worry overly about it young friend.

At your age you haven't finished growing. But you are at a critical age where your bones are beginning to shut down their growth as you are reaching your maximum bone growth. That period can continue until you are as old as 21, more or less.

During this period you are still an adolescent and subject to some injuries an conditions you definitely do not want. Another factor is that habits established at this period of your life often tend to become life-long habits which can stay with you for life, good or bad. Bodybuilding training for children and adolescents has long been controversial within the bodybuilding community. That is because a number of the practices of bodybuilders are potentially dangerous for adults, much less adolescents like yourself.

The heavy lifting employed to build muscle can place stresses on growing joints which can result in injuries which can plague one for life. The use of supplements which you might be encouraged to take in order to build muscle, is based on research on adults, and their effects on adolescent physiologies are not well understood. I would be very careful going that route if I were you.

Bye the way, why the worry? Sure, you are no doubt smaller than other guys, but your size is not necessarily the disadvantage you need to worry about. Take Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of Aikido. He was your size. Yet he could handle men many times larger than himself as abundantly demonstrated in films of him which still exists. and he is by no means unique in the annals of the martial arts.

So train what you've got. Then don't worry. your confidence will show through and whatever you thing you can't have or accomplish will more than likely come your way anyway. If your martial art depends on your size for effectiveness, then find one more suitable to what you have.
