I think this weeks fight was the best thus far. It seems though that Olympic TKD isn't the only sparring that doesn't allow hands to the head (Though Old Mr. Duff laid one on his opponents kisser). I love that they didn't wear protective gear. I was surprised to hear them say that it is the "Most Popular" Martial Art in the world. I believe that TKD holds that title, No ?

yea I thought TKD held that title too
I'm surprised they didnt take a lesson from a Kyokushin master, especially when their opponent practices Kyokushin and they are fighting in a Kyokushin match.

I would think that that may be a locational assessment on your parts.

TKD is probably the most popular in the U.S. but certainly through Europe and other continents, karate is far more widely practiced.

As for Kyukoshinkai, they do not allo head strikes in competition, however dojo sparring can vary between schools.

I don't think that I am mistaken on the TKD claim. Between ITF,WTF,AIMAA,GTF (all international orgs.) and the massive other TKD orgs in between (not to mention the independents) it is hard not to find TKD being practiced (even in Japan and China)any where in the world.

Didn't see the whole thing (just the fight) so I'm watrching tonight.

The football guy said he felt his chest cave-in from a punch that, in slow motion, showed the Kyokushin guy's wrist buckle.

hmmm

Why they just didn't train in Kyoshin-kia?

They do that with all of the arts they train in, they tour each versions of Karate or the arts they trained in. That leads to the fight. Its interesting to me that they show the various distinction in each art practice and short take on its orgin. I like the fact that Karate can't get away from its selfdefense roots, the sport is just 1/8th of what it is, if that.

The sparring match was interesting and showed the patience of the BB even after being hit in the face he didn't sweep or try to Ko with his feet. It seemed that he was told to just batter his legs and chest into submission. He had the guy dancing and nearly limping and he didn't sweep him, thats unlike Kyoshin-kia. I guess because he couldn't break his fall. I don't see how that was a draw?

It was interesting and showed that some of the weakness in Kyoshin-kia no head contact and various rules. If a guy can't kick you kick him basic rule of survival of the fittest.

I did notice that the BB's wrist bent a couple of times when he punched. A big guy like that you have to punch with more hip, he was big and tough. Seemed to have enjoyed himself.

Savate next friday should be interesting the big guy gets kicked up side his head in the trailer!!

Of course they would tour around to see the different sects of Karate, I was saying that I'm surprised they didnt go and learn anything from a Kyokushin Master especially when they were going up against a Kyokushin guy

Wasn't the 1st school in Naha Kyoshin-kia? I notice the head Sensei was one of the Judges for the sparring.
