Hello all,

I'm finding myself in what is a slight connudrum. I have my ring debut in about 8 days at which I am fighting at 170. However, I am currently 175, down from 183 in the past 4 weeks. My weight will not budge now, and I feel that my body is close to over-training, if I even dare add anything else into the regimen. And obviously, besides the normal stupidity of not eating, it is now coupled with the fact that I actually need the energy that precious food gives.

I have had some people (dieters and casual trainers, but NOT fighters) recommend supplements like creatine to give me a supposed energy boost and help me shed a few more pounds (I would rather not have to cut water to weigh in correctly), but having never had any I don't know exactly know what to say or expect. I've also been told flax in the morning and all those things.

My regimen for the coming and final week (which has no weights anymore):
Sprints - Monday to Thursday
Plyometrics - Monday, Wednesday, Thursday
50% Jog - Wednesday, Thursday
Training - Monday to Thursday

Friday is the weigh-in, so nothing can really be done there, and I work on Tuesdays, so I more or less lose that day.

My daily diet:
5 meals - cereal, salad, fruits, dinner, and then cereal or fruit again
2-3 L of water

I estimate about 1800-2200 calories/daily.

Can anyone offer tips on how to shed at least some of this 5 lbs without sacrificing muscle, strength, or sanity?

I have very little to offer but from both knowing an amature body builder and a couple of MMA fighters, it does usually come down to losing water weight to make those last pounds disappear. The unfortunate thing is that you will lose some strength and will possibly sacrifice muscle and why after weighing in that you will need to hydrate immediately.

My own Instructor fights again on the 22nd and usually is around 215 lbs who fought his last fight a month ago as a light heavy weight and dropped to 205 lbs. This time he fights in the middle weight category at 185 lbs. As of a couple of days ago he is at 190 lbs and has 5 more to go. This will be water weight for sure.

What time is your weigh in at? Have you weighed yourself first thing in the morning? Thats when you're at your lightest. I've seen people lose a kilo in about 10 mins from skipping with loads of clothes, not drinking water when thirsty and going to the toilet as much as possible.

If you have your weigh in the day before than at least you have the opportunity to "Carb up" if you do have to go to drastic measures to lose them last few pounds.

Darn, exactly what I did not want to hear.

Ok then, assuming that there is no other way around it, does anyone have any advice for cutting water weight? Having never done it, I can only imagine not drinking or eating, sitting in a sauna, and then weighing in. But what about re-hydrating, is there a better way to do it than gulping down?

The weighs in are the day before and I'll be sure to let you guys know how I do, win or lose.

I think it is best that you confer with other MMA people who are more knowledgeable. Sitting in the sauna with plastic clothing does happen and I've known people going back to high school doing so with garbage bags underneath their sweat suits. I have also heard of people using diuretics to help. I've also heard to take in liquids afterwards slowly; never gulping down fast.

Again, I would consult with other fighters as those that have done it many times, especially under supervision, will know the best ways.

Well I met with my sponsor the other day and was given a chunk wad of supplements (creatine, greens, protein, multivitamin, fatburners - the last two are pill form) so I tried them for a day, and to my shock, I am now suddenly 1.5 lbs heavier. I also noticed I was intaking about twice as much water during the day (since I have to chug about 500ml of water for each of creatine and greens and protein) so I'm wondering:
Is this stuff somehow going to make me retain water (oh my I hope that extra weight is water) that will shed off when I limit myself before the weigh-in or am I taking these in exchange for having to cut more weight?
