First of all let me say that I am no martial artist. I know this is a martial arts forum, and I think martial arts is awesome, and I have a lot of respect for those that are into it.

What I am is a hockey player, a goalie to be exact, and it's time for me to work on my stretching. It is essential for me to be able to do the splits as a goalie.

I came across this website which states that it is possible to get this splits down in just three weeks. Have a look.
http://drillobsession.com/?p=93

I'm all and willing to do the stretching for 30 minutes to and hour twice a day, but does this sound legit? Do you think it's possible to get them down in just 3 weeks? Because to me it sounds to good to be true. I want to give it a shot, but I am a visual learner. I have a hard time doing the stretches that they are describing. Does anyone know of some good stretches on the internet that also show you an image of the stretch?

Thanks for your help.

I think this one quote says a lot:

Quote:

Sideways stretch: Ok, so you’ve probably figured out that I’m making up names for the stretches as I go along. Pretty creative, eh?

Causes me to question the credibility of the author. As to whether or not you can "get there" in three weeks; I doubt it in most cases. You have to be careful about over doing it so you don't hurt yourself.

I don't have the sports medicine or physical therapy background to say whether or not this is a "safe" program. The little voice inside, however, says it might be too much and won't allow your body to recover. You might want to check with someone who is qualified to answer.

No, it is not possible to perform the splits in 3 weeks. For some they may never be able to do this. You have to be a flexible person first off otherwise it maybe a losing battle. I've done Thomas Kurz's Stretching Scientifically and though no doubt I became more flexible and could kick higher, there was no way I was able to do the splits.

<<Not Dereck, but play him on FA.com

Borders, Barnes & Noble, & Books-a-Millon have all stopped carrying this title in stores. It is still available on-line at B&N (not sure about the others) and Amazon etc etc.

Ok thanks. Yeah I ended up buying Stretching to Win or something like that. It was a waste of money. Had no dynamic stretches. I learned maybe 2 new stretches. lol

You'll probably be able to get down to the splits in three weeks, but I doubt you'd be able to get back up again.

Um... yes. Sounds like tripe to me.

I would be cautious. Whether or not the techniques work is a minor issue when compared to whether or not they are safe. You might just find yourself less flexible.
