Why do you want to drink as a regular part of your day? If it is for the taste, not the effect, drink alcohol free beer (kaliber, kaltenburg etc)or find a soft drink that you enjoy and stick with that.

2 beers take 4 hours to clear your body, and the chances are that they will make you sleepy and a little lethargic.

Also consider that beer contains hops, and hops have a huge effect on your eostrogen levels (female hormone). When heavy drinkers get 'man boobs' it is not just stored fat, they develop a mild form of gynocamastia (sp?) or what bodybuilders refer to as 'B*tch t1ts' due to their hormones being out of balance. You want a positive testosterone balance for your training to be successful.

Beer is not evil, beer never ruined anyone's life, beer never stopped anyone reaching high levels of fitness- but a persons decisions in regards to consuption of beer can cause all the above if their choices are wrong.

Choices. Life is full of 'em.

Alcohol is not evil, but may bring out the evil in people ... kind of like guns don't kill people, people kill people.

Anyways, many of us are no strangers to alcohol. I've lifted and also drank alcohol and though I don't drink very often anymore, I did earlier on. However I would never drink after I worked out nor would I lift the day after I worked out. I don't have any scientific proof nor can I remember the articles I read but somewhere I had seen that alcohol can impede muscle recovery and that working out and then going drink almost nullifies your workout. If this is true or not I can't say for sure but I don't take any chances. I'm working out so that I can get bigger, stronger and faster and every time I work out is a step in that direction so why would I want to work out and dampen those effects that I'm striving so hard to get? Plus as Cord eluded to is that alcohol can make you sluggish and when I lift I want to be on top of the game as the weight itself is already an obstacle I have to get over so again why would I make it even more difficult on myself?

A few beers at the weekend is great as a reward but you should leave it at that. Drinking during the week whilst training wont do you any favors as alcohol a sedative and depressant like mentioned.

I think on ultimate fighter 1 it was mentioned that drinking and training you are morel likely to experience cramps not sure how true that is though.

After looking at that picture crab, I don't think you will have to worry about man boobs. You are young and experimenting and having fun, just don't go overboard. Most of us older folks did it too though I never worked out then and I drank every Friday and Saturday from 16 years old to my early 30's. I never drank beer as I can't stand it but again, I never worked out or did martial arts. I was 27 when I started weight lifting and still drank on the weekends though as my weight lifting got more intense the less I drank. Now it is the occasional time as drinking doesn't hold the same pleasure it did and I can have just as much fun and be as silly as I was then without it. I do enjoy the occasional night with the friends and there are times out where you have a couple and would like to spend the rest of the night drinking but there are other priorities.

Just play it safe and be sensible about it. If you want to lead a healthy life and still include drinking in this then you will have to do it in moderation and again be sensible. Don' work out and then go drinking. Don't drink and then workout. If you have a hangover of any degree then don't workout. I think you will find like myself that these types of issues where I couldn't work out I felt guilty about not working out and that took more priority in my life. I don't always enjoy working out and hate it some times but I hate it more when I can't.

Have fun being young, you are only young once. But don't waste your youth.
