Good day people,

I live in Toronto, Canada and I take shotokan. I have been trying to get a pair of nunchucks to train in my class and I don't like these foam ones. Is there any karate store or some location where I can find a wooden chucks(considering they are illegal)?? Thanks a lot

lol no offense, but if you can't spell the name of the weapon right, you are better off with foam ones for now.

Most dojos have kids running around in them. I don't like the foam ones either they feel funny but kids are too ignorant to swing wooden sticks around them.

Just my opinion.

Also, is it cool with your instructor using the real thing in his studio. Broken lights and angry mothers aren't fun I'll bet.

You might want to wear a hat hat when you first start swinging your nunchaku around, it saves getting a few whacks on the back of the head!

oh and don't practice near the TV set either, they have a tendency to fly away at times especially when you are learning spins around the hands and body.

Also helpful to have shoes on your feet and practice standing facing a bed or couch so that when they fall they don't keep landing on your feet or the floor and you don't have so far to bend down to pick them up.

So I take it they're not "too" illegal then?

I handmake nunchaku. If you are interested I would send you a set un-roped. I could send the rope and instructions for how to properly tie them. They can't really be considered nunchaku if they are just two octagonal sticks with a few holes right? Of course if you are under 18 I would want to have some sort of contact with your parents to make sure its cool with them that I am sending you weapons.

They are not illegal here if you are an instructor and can prove you practice martial arts. I can easily buy them over the counter at the local MA store.

Not sure about if they are legal wherever you are.. you will need to check your local laws.
