I have an interclub tournament coming up, it's nothing hard(No head kicks and we are padded) ). Although I entered one of these before, I am quite inexperienced with tournament fighting as we don't usually train for the sport.

I also have 5 days left before the competition. What do you think I should train? I know the chest protector doesn't really stop the impact that much so should I increase muscle in that area? Or should I focus on something else?

ps Is there a way to train sparring techniques without a sparring partner?

You have 5 days mate, there's not time for building muscle anywhere. My usggestion would be get as much practice in sparring under the tournament's rules as possible for the next 3 days. Then take the 2 days prior to the tournament off, since rest is very important if you want to preform you best. You can do some stretching and a jog or whatever on your off days, but no serious training.

I know that it sucks to get hit with the chest protector on when doing drills in class... but honestly, when you're sparring, you generally don't notice any pain when kicked in the midsection (I don't know if it's adrenaline or you're just moving more.) So don't worry about that.

I don't know what kind of shape you're in..... but make sure you're cardovascularly fit. If not, my best advice is to go outside and do sprinting drills up until a couple days before the tournament.

Now that I think about it, should I not go in? Others had more time to prepare than me(I didn't know there was a tournament until yesterday lol) so I might get hammered.

TRUST IN YOURSELF!

Even if you get hammered the experience will be useful.

I think the last tournament I did I had about a week's notice and I'd downed half a bottle of whisky the previous night (read early morning).

Wonder why it was my last

As Trevek says, trust in yourself. If you lose, it is still a valuable learning experience and whatever the outcome you will be glad you have had a go.
