I have what programmers call: "a workaround fix".

here's what you do... your scenario of being in a thread when you aren't logged in.

when you are in the thread, and want to login without losing your place:

1. your browser menu, select file->new window.

2. login using the new window.

3. switch back to the first window and hit 'refresh'.

tada!
another tip free of charge from your friendly forum dweeb.

Also instead of clicking File-->New-->Window, you can press Control-N and it does the same thing. Little keyboard shortcut I use a lot.

Or...

Hold the shift key and click on "Login" will open the login screen (or whatever link you click) in a new window.

Would it aslo work if you had Internet Explorer 7.0? If you were browsing the forums and saw a thread that you wanted to respond to open another tab to the FA site, log in then hit refresh and go back to the first tab and be logged in? Does that make sense? I hope so because I'm not all that computer savvy and don't think I could explain it another way.

Ok yeah the way I just said to do it also works. I have this website stored in my favorites and so it was pretty easy.
