Kongo Ken (Iron Diamond)
Kongo Ken represents the same structure as a man body. If practised regularly the Kongo Ken will bring added power to your grappling and throwing skills. Its aero dynamics and dead weight make it a formidable training aid. The measurements of the Kongo Ken Basically it should be 5 foot (153cm) elongated oval and about 18 inches (46cm) wide with a tube diameter of about one and a half to two inches (4-5cm). It's weight will depend upon the metal used and if the metal is solid or tubular. Weights for Kongo Ken can vary, it would be useful to have two of differing weights maybe one of around 30kg and the other of 50kg. This will allow all dojo members to utilise and benefit from it's use. ref: http://www.iogkf.it/hojoeng.htm
anyone know where to get one?

Best way would be to have one made. Steel pipe, have it bent at a machine shop or maybe a place that installs car mufflers. 2 U shaped pieces and weld them together

Hello, I am in contact with some plumbers working on the local Military Base. Contact a Blacksmith. At one time within the IOGKF, someone tried to market them, but not enough of a market to make it worth their time.

Two pieces welded. Good idea. Weighting one to 50kg would be tough though. Even 2" diameter pipe 5ft high and 18 inches across and made of steel and then filled with... sand?? maybe that would work.

Sorry to git a little off topic, but how do you use it exactly?

several exercises, single or two-person. typically for raw strengthening with various drills that build pushing and pulling, torso twist and sinking/rising strength. also can be used for conditioning particularly forearms. another, less taught use (in Karate) is in building throwing speed/strength.
Thanks all - I'll look into the blacksmith route then coat it with a latex-based paint. seems nobody makes these commercially. probably not worth the shipping costs.

Have a look at this, to give you some idea on how it's used: At 6'49" you'll see how it's used. Okinawan karate part 1 featuring Kongo-Ken at 6.50
