(What I want to know...is this a leftover/accident from WWII...or a new form of terrorism?)

It was an American grenade, so I'm guessing its left over from WWII

Probably not a terrorist act; had it been, the grenade would probably have been wired booby trap style...

Sounds like the grenade was like many Americans and wanted to learn about its roots.

I suspect it was a German-American and misunderstood a few things. German grenades were nicknamed 'potato mashers'
