Greetings!

So, since I have been free to comment on others' training videos, I felt it was only fair that I post one of my own. Here is a short clip of some bagwork that I did at the end of my home workout this morning.

Nothing fancy, really. If I am lucky, there will be some video of some of my training buddies and I sparring in the near future. Unfortunately, that piece of editing is not in my hands, but I will post a link for your enjoyment when I get it.

Enjoy, and of course, constructive comments are always welcome!

Mike

PS - I just posted this to YouTube, so hopefully by the time any of you try the link it will be working. If not, just give it some time - you will all get your chance to mock my ninja skills if you have some patience!

Just kidding! I haven't even seen the video yet. Just priming the poison pen!

Looks like I'm going to have to finally invest in a video capture card, and join the critique club.

Now I've seen it!

Nice speed on your combos. I see what you mean about getting the knee up on those sidekicks. I like the elbows and knees, too. I gotta work knees in more myself.

My only critique would be that you sometimes seem a bit too far away from the bag for max power.

But very nice overall. Thanks for manning up with a vid for us!

I love the casual adjustment of your glasses mid combo at around 2 mins- how nonchelant is that?!

your kick speed and placing appears enviably effortless- 18 years well invested indeed. If you ever get a chance to be a 'tourist' at a savate class/seminar, I suggest you go, you would absolutely love it, some of your combo's and distancing is so similar, that I thought I was watching a savateur until the end qualification of your style. Very glad I will never have to spar you

Great stuff!

If I absolutely had to pick on something... you tend to drop your hands a bit when kicking. You're going to get popped in the nose!

(Now I have to get that video capture device, so you all can rip on me. )

Mike, what did you use to edit that together?

Thanks ZZ!

Yeah - I noticed that too. And I have been popped in the nose before, unfortunately .

I used Windows Movie Maker - it comes free with Windows XP. Very easy to use!

Hi Cord!

I actually had 3 yrs of TKD prior to joining the MSUKC. It was the TKD that taught me to kick high, and the MSUKC that taught me to not get kicked in the jimmy when kicking high!

Funny you should mention savate - I had the opportunity to work with a few savateurs a few weeks ago when I got together with some old training partners and some savate folk they are currently sparring with. I really liked what I saw, and appreciated the work they did with us on leg kicks, as that is not something we usually do in sparring at the MSUKC. Savate is something I would love to explore in more depth someday if I get the chance.

And why wouldn't you want to spar me? Look at me - I am skinny and weak! You are the musclebound doorman who would have me out on my rear in the alley in a second!

Peace,
Mike

Dealing with drunks who think they can fight, and with whom you can find a little personal 'motivation' is always easier than facing a friend who knows what they are doing. Besides, I am a rusty ex doorman

I have to speak to a couple of buds to see if they can help me get some of my bag work up on here, if only to generate a laugh or two
