You don't need to exaggerate 10-fold though. That's running with it a bit too far. He also said "into the air", which suggests vertical. The correct phrase would have been, "a couple feet across the mat". When there's enough legitimate complaints I don't have much respect for people who exaggerate.

if that was my kid, that wrestling match would quickly turn into a MMA match, with me beating that dad up.

Is he stupid or anything? I didn't see any reason for him to run in and throw off that kid like that. Ok, it wasn't 10 feets into the air, but it was a couple of feets across the mat and there were other people wrestling. Who knows? That kid could've flown into another couple and injured 2-3 other kids while they're wrestling.

If his kid had a bad shoulder then he should have used good judgement and had his kid sit out this match and further matches until he was healed up.

It was a lame excuse for doing what he did. Something got over him and he acted like a moron. The kid obviously didn't have a bad shoulder or the ref would've seen it. Also, the kid wouldn't be permitted to wrestle with a bad shoulder by the coach unless the coach is a shmuck.

I don't know, I don't know!!!!

There was no justification for what he did and I am not defending him and I think his regret was genuine, but, at the heat of the moment when your precious kid is involved (perhaps in unjustified pain) and seeing what you perceive, rightly or wrongly, an illegal move (the other dad's words seemed to suggest it was and the referee appeared to hesitate a mite too long) he intended to just and did push the kid off his son, but reacted too strongly (he was a big man and rushing forward) and 'tossed' the kid about 10 feet away (not up)

It is easy for us impartial strangers to stand back and in a collective chorus judge him, I don't know.

Look at our Uncle Dereck's reaction; is this a 'fightable offence?'; certainly 'condemnable' but, 'fightable?' -- would this be another over-reaction?. I don't know, I don't know.

Actually, I never thought about it that way. I'll go reflect on this but I think you've swayed my mind towards the other way now.

Uncle Dereck ...

More from a father's or parent's point of view. And yes it probably would have been an over reaction to beat this guy to a pulp. However every action requires an equal and opposite reaction thus with passion and conviction I would have launched him 10 feet backwards. I want me kid to feel safe from bullies like this father. It is one thing for kids of equal size and weight matched up on the mat but it is another for a full grown adult to handle a child in that manner especially when it isn't his kid. You never ever put your hands on another person's kids. But you are right, as it could escalate and probably wouldn't look too good to all that watched.

I don't have kids, so take this point of view for what it's worth.

I doubt I would have attacked the guy. My first concern would be to check and see if my kid was ok after getting tossed like that.

Make no mistake, I'd be good and angry about it, and would have some choice words for the guy, but I'd worry that fighting him would escalate into a full-on riot, and I know I wouldn't do well in prison.

Now I'm curious about what the guy would have done if the kid he threw off the mat's father rushed in and dropped HIM for attacking HIS kid.

I wonder if he would be as forgiving of another fathers "over-reacting" as he clearly hopes they are with him?

Incorrect. If you look at the video in slow motion, the kid is in fact "in the air" (vertical), although it is not anywhere near 5 or 10 feet. Tough call as far as over-reaction. But IMHO, the guy could have just pulled the kids apart, instead of launching the one.

if the Father was so concerned about his son being injured...why didn't he tend to his kid instead of getting in the cameraman's face?

It leans to showing he was more upset of his son losing than about his son being hurt.

not only was this an over-reaction...it was the wrong reaction and for the wrong reasons.

over-zealous sports-dads living thru their kids, suck. Reminds me of the same mental illness displayed by beauty-queen mothers.

my dad was watching the school rugby match in which my face was purposefuly stamped on, not 10 feet from him. It fractured my jaw in 2 places and broke 2 teeth at their root in my gum. My dad's only reaction as he saw me get to my feet was to point out which of the opposing team had done it so I could decide if I wanted to return the favour.
if your kid wants to play dangerous games, and you are not prepared for the consequences, then as an adult, you are within your rights to prevent them participating. If I were the kid that got thrown, I would be mortified that my dad had stepped in to fight my battle for me. School would be hell from that point on.
