Dad jumps in to help son in the case of a zoiding ref:

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/illinois/chi-ap-il-wrestlingdad,0,521357.story

"AURORA, Ill. -- A father bounded into a youth wrestling match, picked up his son's winning opponent and launched him out of the ring, an episode caught on a home video.

After tossing the 11-year-old boy into the air Sunday, the angry father headed toward the cameraman, the father of the airborne boy.

"I was just wrestling, then the guy throws me," the boy, Nick Nasenbeny of suburban Aurora, told WMAQ-TV in Chicago. It was not known if the boy was injured.

Ray Hoffman, the father in the video and a part-time wrestling coach, told the television station he regrets his behavior and feels embarrassed. He said his son's shoulder was injured. Hoffman also said he will no longer be allowed to coach.

Dean Bogess, a wrestling coach who attended the meet in suburban Rolling Meadows, said Nick was using a legal move to pin his opponent and that the referee was about to stop the match when Hoffman intervened.

"The match was being stopped. He had blown his whistle already," Bogess said.

Nick's father, Dan Nasenbeny, said he was stunned by Hoffman's actions.

"I mean, there is a lot of different ways to stop a match. Not to pick up my son and launch him 5 feet, 10 feet in the air," Nasenbeny said.

Hoffman did not return messages left Thursday by The Associated Press. "

I don't know if dad was wrong to jump in, but he didn't have to launch the other kid like that, IMHO.

I don't know, those parental/protectionist instincts can be triggered for any reason at any time with some people. Yes, the guy made a huge embarassing mistake, but maybe he thought his kid was in mortal danger for a moment long enough to go into daddy defense mode.
Don't get me wrong though, I'm not advocating his behavior in any way.

The guy is embarrassed? Wow ... he's lucky that wasn't my kid or I would have lost it and I would have been on the news for kicking his ass! I'm angered by this. This father had no business doing what he did, not what so ever. If his kid had a bad shoulder then he should have used good judgement and had his kid sit out this match and further matches until he was healed up.

I couldn't tell from that video if the kid was in extreme pain or if he cried or what to make his father jump in like that ... however there is a ref there who is paying attention to things that could stop it if he felt there were problems ... OR the kid could tap verbally or physically to end the match.

If I was the other parent of the kid who got launched out of the ring then I would be pressing charges. Nobody touches my kid like that. The toss wasn't overly terrible as I'm sure kids do worse themselves, especially getting tossed around while actually wrestling for takedowns, but that doesn't excuse the fact that this schmuck of a father lost it like he did and touched another person's kid. No excuse!

This guy must be a moron, that was clearly at most 1 foot in the air.

He exagerated but he's not a moron. As a parent I wouldn't care if he moved him 1 inch, he had no right touching the other kid. You touch my kid in any way or form you had better expect to be beaten.

I'm Hoping that I'll meet up with him some day
