At the BJJ/Kickboxing place I went to they did a technique where you do a takedown on the attacker and then doing a knee drop type of move.

Basicly you would fall into a one legged kneel in order to hit the person with your first knee and then turn at the hips and bring the first leg up and the other leg down into another kneeling position to hit them with the second knee. (I realize that's not a very good description, I'm working on trying to find a video on youtube or something) It was a movement a little like the knee walking done in Aikido.

Does anyone have any experience with this move that can give me more information about it or know any other methods of using the knee against a downed opponent?

I have no idea what it is you are talking about. But, from your description and my attempts to visualize it, I am seeing a easy way to get reversed right off the takedown?

I'm not seeing what you are explaining but it is common in my training when taking down somebody to drop a knee across their ribs when you have control of an arm, not to mention their head. Probably less likely in competition but for certain during self defense training. Or drop it across their chest/stomach prior to performing a knee ride to help take the wind from them.

I've seen that move done a lot in silat. I used to practice that as well years ago before I knew better.

I too used to train in Silat... was contemplating resuming (as an adjunct to, but definitely not in place of!). Has there been any good conversations on here re the pro's and con's of silat?

Sorry, a bit off topic I know, but since in came up...

Cheers,

P

More cons than pros.

Checked it... an interesting read.

Reinforced my own opinions... I think I might stick with my current training!
