is it possible in a self defense stiuation to knock someone out in one punch.the reason I ask is because I was watching ultimate knockouts and I seen someone get knocked out(in one punch)is that applicable in a real SD stiuation

Well utimate knockouts is a collection of things that happened in real life. If it happened there, it can happen in the street in a real life encounter too. SD situations often also have no gloves to cushion the blow.

Course it can happen in real life but if they have a decent chin your gonna have to follow it up! Its not something you can apply, the only thing you should be applying is to put your opponent down for good. If this means kicking him when hes down then so be it, i know a lot will disagree but i just don't see the softer MA approach of yeah hit him but not to much oh you might get in trouble! Danger of life is enough trouble for me

Go see bas hes the man

Possible? Yes.

But then on the 'possible' list it sits comfortably alongside 'missing completely', 'breaking your hand', 'slipping and falling over', 'rolling around ineffectively on the floor swearing at eachother as you throw 'tap tap' shots until the police arrive' and a host of other things.

Anything is possible. You have to train in such a way as to be able to control situations and narrow down 'possibles', whilst increasing your 'probables'

If you're really, really, really lucky and very skilled, you might get a one punch knockout once or twice in your lifetime. Otherwise you're likely to have to hit your opponent more than once.

Note that the more skilled you are, the higher the chance of it happening is. Training makes more of a difference than luck because having good training means that you'll get the chance to hit your opponent more than once in a fight.

i think that in real SD fights you dont always have to hurt your opponent, sometimes is all ok if you just scarry him.. with not very strong punch or kick when he isnt ready for it.. a lot of people leave you alone when thing like this happen.. if they dont, you must teach them an another lesson

but when he or she has an weapon is all diferent and in situations like this is very nice if you can knock out him/her with only one punch..

Is it possible? Yes, that's what we train for and what we strive for the ability to end a conflict with one well-aimed strike. Is it probable? I’d have to say that there are so many variables that the odds are against it happening at a high percentage.

Yea, it’s possible, unlikely but possible.

I will assume this falls in the “host of other things” category but the very worst feeling is to lay into someone - knowing you can KO in 1 - and have them stand there and look at you.

Anyone can KO in one hit its just timing and catching your opponent right and those are the hardest things to get right in a street fight. Yeah you can KO people in 1 but so can anyone, hard sparring is the best thing you can do, good boxing with aggression and keeping cool under hard pressure. I think an overlooked factor is studying your enemy, who are you going to bump into who's going to want to attack you? think about this sort of person and prepare your self mentally for them the less surprises the better, remove the fear and fight hard
