Your hands are always either protecting yourself or hurting your opponent.

Have confidence in yourself; when it comes down to it, if you don't believe you can handle a situation, you won't be able to.

Overconfidence can cause trouble, leading people to put themselves into dangerous situations but lack of confidence is equally dangerous and can cause a person to freeze or panic, instead of dealing with a situation as they have been trained.

This is easier said than done but more training helps.

"Don't look at the floor or you'll end up on it"

I'm not sure if my instructor meant i'll end up on it in a fight or if he was about to floor me

My Sensei:

"Don't do it like that."

Me:

"How should I do it, Sensei?"

My Sensei:

"Not like that."

"Don't believe anything, don't trust anyone, and if you're about to get into a fight hit first, ask questions later." I read this in some book as a quote from a random Chinese guy. Seriously.
