Don't know if this has been done, but here it goes; What's your favorite kata? Mine are Yantsu and Gekisai dai kata as taught by Oyama. I know it sounds weird for a goju-practitioner to do those two but like I said; I'm not restricting myself. But one that will forever haunt me will be.... Sanchin. What is so special about it?? Don't know, but I'll find out even if it takes me another 40 years. -Taison out

My favourite kata is Passai (old Tomari no Passai version). I very like this kata because of bunkai. Bunkai of Passai kata is very effective in real confrotation. In bunkai we have all basic defensive movements for self defence.

It's hard to choose a favorite since I visit them all on a nearly daily basis but if pressed I'd say sepai, kururunfa, and superimpei.

Been training Tekki Shodan (Kyokushin) like mad and Pinan Sono Yon (Oyama style).
Don't know why, I'm a goju-ryu practitioner but I keep doing KK katas. Guess something hit me too hard on the head.

Oh goodness... I love them all so much. Hangetsu is good... ummm Bassai Dai and Sho are good. Kanku Sho is FUN. But I must say that I feel "whole" and "complete" when I do "Sochin" in a dark room by myself.

My favorite Kata would be the Uechi Sanchin.
I like it because it develops a lot of punching power (even though the technique delivered is a spear-hand) and because it develops iron body conditioning.

I really like Gekisai Dai, as we do it in Seido. The way everything is combined, strong techniques followed by the explosiveness at some parts.
Also I really like Seido katas (as the name suggests, unique to Seido karate). It focusses a lot on hip movement, throwing powerfull cross punches, and also moving backwards.

Can I change my mind? Depending on any given day, or place in my training, I prefer one kata over another for various reasons. I like it either because I can do it comfortably, or because I can't...and it challenges me. Some kata from other systems I find fascinating to watch...but don't want to learn. Some I'm tired of watching just because it may be all over youtube.com. Today...my favorite is Choun no kon. I'm stuck in the office, and have missed two weeks of kobudo practice...and am longing to feel the bo.

I like many of the Kata's but the one I like to do the most is Heian Shodan. It is very basic but it just feels so powerful and stable. Maybe it's because finally feel that I can do it well after all this time.
The one that I really want to do is Jion but I still have a little way to go before I am ready.
