I always thought it was because the fighters were working full time and didn't want to turn up at work the next day with a broken noses, black eyes or broken cheekbones etc. It doesn't stop the odd smack to the face in the frensied attacked during competitions. I watched a few in my time. Ashihara and Enshin Karate is very similar but the rules are slightly different with the 'Sabaki Challenge'

mike tyson also could have hit wrong

Are you aware that the gloves in boxing are there to protect the hands, not the opponent?
Before the introduction of gloves, the bare knuckle fights would last for 50 or more rounds
John L Sullivan was one of those bare knuckle fighters who switched to using gloves, because of it, he could hit much harder and finish the fight much faster
Someone like Tyson, who is used to hitting as hard as they can because they war gloves, damage themselfs when hitting just as hard not wearing the gloves

Have you ever tried to punch someone bare handed in the head? You are likely to get your hand broken!!!!

My teacher hit somone in the head and broke their jaw and cheek bone, but then again we're all tool conditioning nuts, so to him a head wasn't much bother

i heard that getting hit in the chest is worse than the face. what do you think?
i saw someone who could hit the chest whith a hammer fist and penetrate 2" that must be fatal

I've never been seriously hit in the chest, every time I have it just feels like a push, but if you should break your sternum you'll lose use of you arms and be unable to breathe confortably and will probably feint either due to shock or lack of oxygen which is why I believe alot of combative sports ban sternum shots, I think that from what I've seen in kyokushin they're are rarely any fighters who posses such power, and seeing how they train, it's not suprizing.

I know rib shots hurt alot though, they are both painful and for some reason movement of any kind becomes very difficult which it why core training and conditioning (or atleast hard sparring) are essential.

hey thanks fro the reply

im glad they allow hit to the chest but how can you hit not hit the sternum.

pain is not that bad. Of course im going to avoid with a block if i can.
Pain is not a reason to quit

im al for head shot but it is too dangerious for groin hits.

When Mike Tyson hit the fellow he got whats called a "Boxer fracture" which is where you fracture your pinkie bone (down the line of the pinkie)thus breaking the hand.

If I hit with a proper fist, there is no way my hand is going to break before their face does.
